No Sound Need help troubleshooting

Posted this in the Audio forum thought I would try here also.

Trying to fix the CD Changer I managed to get it working to then tearing the connector ribbon on the back of it, no more CD Change. The sound quit working after this, everything works, radio comes on, Single CD in the Head Unit loads, Nav works but NO SOUND. I checked all the fuses related to the radio, COMMAND and Nav system. This was all with the CD Changer still plugged in, I unplugged it and Still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

I believe the cd changer, amplifier and headunit's fiber optic run in a loop connecting all three. If one doesn't work then it is possible that the other doesn't work. I would guess that you will need to get the cd changer to work again for the amp to work. I am currently installing a new head unit and ampifier to get rid of the fiber optic problems.

This is what I was afraid of. I'm checking to see if there is some sort of connector I can plug into the harness for the CD changer to close the loop in the meantime.

The audio equipment does run in a loop using fiber optic cables. On the C55 this is known as the MOST ring. You most likely disrupted it. The fiber optic cables are orange. Be very careful with them and don't kink it. Do you have power to the CD unit?

From what I recall, (and it has been some time since I messed with the fiber networks on these cars) you can remove a device as long as you properly terminate the fiber optic cable and maintain the OEM MOST sequence of the devices. What I don't remember is if any STAR version coding is required, or can this be configured using the secret menus in Comand, or if it will just work. maybe some else knows. Maybe the non-AMG forum can be of some help.

That is why I think the easiest thing to do maybe to just make the CD pass thru the fiber optic signal properly.

Yes the HU is working, the Navigation works just no sound. The Single CD behind the HU faceplate works also no sound.

I was referring to power to the CD changer. Do you have a picture of the connector ribbon that is broken? If I have free time at the end of the day, I'll look through my MB WIS documentation to see what i can find.

Not sure what you did to make the sound go away but here is some more info. I see the ribbon cable and there can be a number of issues. It looks like you will not need any version coding to remove the CD hanger. Only to add a changer. That's good news. Regarding the fiber optic cables, you need to complete the fiber loop. On the older cars with the D2B loop, this is done using a coupler part 000 545 33 84. I don't know what it would be for the MOST loop which is what you have. Sometimes the CD cable is constructed in the way that it can be coupled bypassing the CD unit. I again had seen it on the older W203s with D2B loop.

Thanks for your help. Now I have to either get mine fixed, find a replacement or find a MOST coupler. I found someone to fix mine (pricey), someone is checking to see if they have an old one (no luck on ebay), and I have no idea about the MOST coupler. LOL I would like to get the coupler out of all of these because I've decided to try and embrace more modern technology and use the MP3 adapter. But I can't until I get the SOUND back.

Found a MOST fiber optic loop connector that will close the loop. Hopefully, it will work.

Replaced the CD changer with a working unit. Everything is functioning again. When the MOST fiber optic loop connector arrives I will take out the CD changer and install the Loop connector to see if that also works.

This isn't the one I ordered, but it should work the same.

Ok, I unhooked the CD Changer and plugged in the MOST Optic Loop connector. It worked I had sound. So at least I know if the CD Changer goes bad again or acts up I can still have sound.
