btw dude, don't buy land rovers...
they are even worse than BMW...
i had a range rover and discovery se7, it sure did the best job to offroading, but its reliaibiltiy i can tell you is the worse manufactuer! but the range rover still is one of my top 3 favourite car tho. nothing can replaced the off road king.

No. Just because the price range is similair doesn't mean jack. Buyers who think of Lexus don't think of the MPowers or AMG's. My dad just got a 4.4i, the G500 was no where on his maybe list, and the contender was the GX470, LX470 is another beast. The W163 is more of a contender rather than Big Boss.
For example, i am currently comparing G500 vs. LX470 vs. Range Rover...and i do off-road (as you can see at my 4runner forum). Because of horrific stories of G500's electrical problems (see Benzworld.org forum), i am down to LX vs. RR. These problems matter...because i certainly don't want to be stuck in "limp-home mode" in the middle of a mud ditch!! For the very same reason, i am leaning toward LX470 over RR.
Yeah I'd go LX too, but for all that money I'd rather have a Landcruiser and get some aftermarket stuff. Some Lexus' are just overrated.

I have NEVER said that BMW lasts long...IN FACT, i have stated MANY TIMES that BMW and Mercedes are NOT made to last. Again, i do NOT plan on keeping my M3 past 100K miles because of this.
However, in arguing, it is not a wise idea to bring up MB's quality over BMW when recent data CLEARLY does NOT support this!
