2005 C55 Will Not Start but Cranks / Looking for Fuel Relay location

Greetings,

I have a 2005 Mercedes Benz C-55 that has had problems over the course of a few months. After replacing the alternator, it was back up and running but shortly after the repair it cranks but will not start. I have checked the fuses and none seem to be the issue. I do not know where the Fuse Pump Relay is located although I have checked the fuel pump fuse and it seems fine. I also replaced the crankshift position sensor and it is currently not showing any codes at this time. I do not know what could be wrong with it and I do not have the funds at this time to take it back to the shop. I followed the guides and prayed asking for the Lord's help in order to install the sensor. It is installed but it still cranks but will not start. Any ideas? God bless you!

CPS and MAF are common issues on this engine that can cause that condition

I would assume if the MAF was bad that it would give a code but I did not get that code. I am looking if there is a fuel pump relay that may need replacing; however, I was using an unreliable scanner tool that I purchased from Wal-Mart. I wonder if this part for $17.88 will work?

easy way to check the MAF is to disconnect it. no change normally means no issue. I would put my money on the CPS. should also throw a code but doesnt always. Stay away from cheep ebay stuff when when it comes to these parts. By OE bosh parts. you will be glad you did.

where do you live?

I am in Memphis, TN. Yeah, initially I bought a $7.00 dollar aftermarket CPS off ebay and it did not work so I purchased a Bosch one off Amazon here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001COAS78/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001COAS78/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is not throwing the CPS code. I am not a mechanic so, I really do not know. I purchased a cheap MAF of ebay here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Air-Mass-Flow-Sensor-Meter-MAF-Fit-Mercedes-E430-E500-G500-ML430-S500-E500/231562530864?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid =p2060353.m2749.l2649

It has a lifetime warranty and two excellent reviews so it may just work. It almost seems that the anti-theft device feature is engaging when the it cranks and does not start. I thought it would be the CPS but I will install the MAF with the Lord's help and see if that works. God bless you!

It could be the key too. At this point I would spend the money for a STAR scan. It will likely point you to the problem so you can stop spending money on solutions that may not work.

Yes, well I recently lost my job so I am trying to get it working in order to find a new one, so I really do not have the money at this time to get it towed and scanned. Definitely would be practical if I had the funds. I got a replacement CPS because when I go to crank the car up I still get several repetitious cranks and it does not show any rpms on the dash. So it seems that either the car immobilizer is kicking it which very well could be the result of a faulty key, fuel pump relay is not working, or the cps that I installed was faulty. However, I do not know the location of the fuel pump relay on Mercedes C55. I will change the CPS to see if it was faulty. I pray and ask for the Lord's help as my previous job was in walking distance to my home. God bless you!

did you try unplugging the MAF? have someone turn the key and see if o u can here the pump or you can check for pressure at the fuel rail. Have you checked the battery voltage, connections and grounds? these cars are quite fickle about voltage.

I did try to take the MAF connection off but I could not and I did not want to break it so I left it alone until I could do research into taking it off. Seems like a simple press clasp but it would not come off. The battery is new but definitely low but I used a jump start back when cranking it. I will try to listen for the fuel pump but it seems something is actively turning it off. Does anyone know where the fuel pump relay is located on a 2005 C55?

FYI I would not try to start the car with a jump pack. I would charge the battery with the battery disconnected. It is quiet easy to fry a light ballast or an ignition while "Jumping" a MB.

I changed the mass air flow sensor and the car did start; however, it seems to be missing and a very rough idle. I believe this may be due to aftermarket part I replaced it with. I cleaned the original mass airflow sensor with electrical cleaner as I did not have any mass air flow cleaner and will see if it will crank. If not I may have to purchased a used one on ebay. God bless you!

Try your CPS.

Symptoms sounds like a typical CPS issue

Replaced with a used original Mercedes MAF and then a new aftermarket one and now it will not crank.

Since you managed to remove the clip did you run it with the MAF disconnected?

I tried it but it did not crank. Just kept trying to crank. I purchased a new OBD scanner to see the codes that are popping up if any.

Well, Got the new scanner in today, and tried to read the error code for the engine light and it shows...--- No Codes

Still, will not start after repeated cranking. It sounds exactly like this car in the youtube video here.

However, I still do not know where the fuel pump relay is located.

If the fuel pump is working you can hear it. also test pressure at the fuel rail. At this point with out a proper star scan I dont think anyone here will be able to help you.

Okay, I installed a NEW crankshaft position sensor and I am still having the same results. However, I am on a half tank of fuel. I have not tried to add fuel as it seems that when I try to start it I start smelling fuel. Before I change the fuel pumps I am wondering if anyone knows if the 2005 C55 has a saddle fuel tank. Because maybe one side of the tank is full and the other side is not getting the proper gas. It cut off on me once before and and I put gas in it and the system showed red for alternator malfunction. Then I got the alternator replaced. It was still on the same fuel that I had placed inside it and was driving fine until I parked it at 1/2 tank at my house. Any thought?

it does have a saddled tank but there is a pumping action on both sides. If you smell gas chance are the seal on the pump housing is cracked and leaking gas into your back seat. ask me how i know

Did you try lubing flywheel from under the car?

The problem has not been resolved, I purchased a new battery as I had purchased the incorrect fuel pump and when I installed the battery the car will no longer do anything. No lights, no sound (no clicking), nothing. I checked the fuses but none seem to be burned out. The battery made a spark when I connected it but it was brand new from Sam's. It cranked the car up once then when I rehooked it up, nothing. Any ideas?

Start chasing ground wires if you aren't going to get a star scan.
