Tires for Track
I am looking for R comp tires to run on my next track events. I am leaning towards a set of the Kumho Victorace V700's. Can anybody comment on these. smgc32, CynCarvin do you run R comps and if so what kind?
I like the Kumho because they are pretty cheap.
I will be running them on the stock wheels. THe fitment that is available is 245/45/17 on the front and 255/40/17 on the rear. Will the fronts fit? For the street tires I was told that 245 on my 18" HRE would rub so I went with 235.
If anybody has any info please let me know. Thank you in advance.

"April 5, 2004
Kumho Tire U.S.A. notified us April 5, 2004 they have chosen to voluntarily recall all ECSTA V710 tires. If you still have ECSTA V710 tires (new, used or even worn out), Kumho has authorized us to exchange them on a one-for-one basis with an enhanced version of the ECSTA V710 when it becomes available in approximately 60-90 days.
In order to compensate you for any inconvenience, as well as mounting and balancing costs, Kumho has further authorized us to provide either ECSTA V700 or VictoRacer V700 tires, again on a one-for-one basis, at no final cost to you"
So it appears that the V700 is my only choice out of the Kumho's for Track.
Do you know how well they perform? What sizes?

Anybody have any experience running R comp tires? I am specifically just looking for fitments on the stock rims. I am going to try the Kumho V700.
The sizes available for the front are:
245/45/17 - I am afraid that this will rub a lot. Can somebody confirm? I would ideally like 235 but the Kumho's do not come in that size. The 245 would also help because i would like as much grip as possible for the front tires.
For the rear:
255/40/17 - I am pretty sure that this will fit and should be fine. Are there any fender rubbing? Does that little metal object holding the fender that should be ground for 19" wheels rub on this setup?
Thanks again if anybody can help.

I don't have any significant rubbing to cause any concern. In an autocross situation with a full lock slow turn you can see where the tire slightly rubbed the plastic inner fender lining but nothing to worry about.
I am going to go ahead and buy those. I don't have the Renntech Springs but I do intend to put my Carlson Coilovers on soon but the drop will be identical to the Renntech Springs - maybe slightly lower but not by much.
What do you think of those tires? Does the lack of negative camber on our cars eat through these tires quickly? I was thinking of getting them shaved as well and want to know how soon yours wore. Did you buy them shaved or not?
Thanks a bunch.

In terms of the tires being eaten up by the lack of negative camber, my autocrossing has been tougher on the tires than the track because of the tight turns, 360's, etc. However, I'll likely try them shaved next time and see if it helps reduce the outer edge wear. The Victoracers are a great bang for the buck R compound and seem to be fairly progressive and communicative. You won't go wrong with the Kumho's or Toyo RA-1 combination recommended by SMGC32.
