C32 Vs C 55 Vs M3
Could someone please confirm if my information is correct, I have read many comments on this forum that say there is only a small difference between the C32 and C55.
However all publications that I have read give the following information regarding the South African C 32 and C 55, and I regard the difference as huge. Could someone please confirm, are these are the same specks for the C32 and C55 that you have available in the USA or do we in South Africa have some kind of C 55 on steroids. The way I see it is there is only one choice in the matter and that is the C 55
C32 Power = 260kw@6200 rpm; and Torque = 450@4400 rpm; and 0 to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.
C 55 Power = 350kw@6100 rpm; and Torque = 700@2650 rpm; and 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.
The same publication lists the BMW M3 as follows
BMW M3 Power 252kw@7900 rpm; and Torque = 365@4900 rpm; and 0 to 100km/h in 5.48 seconds. (This is for the manual version)
The above information makes it very clear to me that the BMW is not even competition.
I would love to hear your thoughts before I start considering trading in my C 230k for the perfect family car i.e. the C55.
Thanks
Antony

i dont know how it is in south africa...i dont know kw to hp conversion... but i do know your 0to62 mph numbers are completely off. c32...4.9, c55...4.8, m3...4.8
those numbers are much closer to reality.

1kw = 1.341022
so,
260kw = ~349hp
350kw = ~469hp
252kw = ~338hp
469hp for the C55 sounds high

thats screwed up.
Sounds like the E55 engine.
You could pull all kinds of numbers out, C32 hit 4.6 0-60 in published mags, so in reality, all those 4.6-5.2 cars are quite equal on the street.

2004 C32 AMG
Your numbers for the C32 are pretty well off. The 0-60 is in the 4.6-4.9 range. Plus, the modifications for the C32 can outdo the mods for the C55. If you went all the way with both cars (as far as mods), the C32 is the better car.

I have just received confirmation form Nico, (My fellow South African on this site). Here is his reply. It seems as if the most reputable car magazine in my country is wrong, they have used the power and torque values from the E 55. Im going to send them an e-mail immediately, - I was about to place my order at MB.

(Hi there
The figures you quoted for the C55 is not right. The C55 will have a n/a V8. The figures you quotes is for the s/c version as in the E55 etc. The C55 will have the same engine as the CLK55. 270 Kw and 510 NM. Have a look at this link.
http://www.mercedesbenz.co.za/PC/Cla...MG_engine.asp.
Although the C55 has more power and torque, I think it will only be quicker at sea level. Up here by me n/a cars lose about 20% power due to less air pressure.
Hope this answer your question.
Greetings
Nico van Hulst)

Regarding the conversions between Hp and Kw etc, there is an outstanding little conversion program at the following website http://www.joshmadison.com/software/ it is most useful if you use imperial and metric values
Thanks
