AMG is located in the town of Affalterbach Germany. In 1967, AMG was created by two car enthusiasts; Werner Aufrecht and Erheard Melcher, the A and M in the company name. Werner was born in the town of Grossaspach, hence the addition of the G in AMG.

Aufrecht Melcher GroBaspach
Hans Werner Aufrecht supplies the first letter and amogst other tidbits of information his initials are often the start of AMG part numbers
Eberhard Melcher provides the second letter brilliant engineer and Aufrecht's partner.
GroBaspach is Hans Aufrecht's birthplace
Both worked at Mercedes and started messing around with engines in their spare time at Aufrecht's house. Eventually this would end taking all their time and yada yada yada...

I once visited AMG and accidently found myself in Grossaspach.. It isnt anything special.. really.. Same with Affalterbach.. just a small town..
