Gutted rear cats and took off resonator...
Yesterday after they removed the resonator ($30), they suggested unbolting the rear cats and gutting them for some HP gain and better sound. Well for another $50 I figured what the hell. Anyways it does sound much better, but the 3 to 4 HP gain can't be felt. Since they unbolt they said MB could never be able to tell and if they did they would probably just think they rotted out. They said they could remove the fronts as well including building me a custom 02 Sim that would be hidden. They would also cut right at the original weld seams and spray over them afterwards to mask any new welds. I am still contemplating this move though...

Anyone have a sound file of the a c32 w/o reasonator?
I'm plan on doing the same thing, but if it'll be too loud, I'm going to have probs with our local cops.

it's more for sound ..performance? ..very little noticable gain/loss..i just ordered some stainless 304 to match the rest of the exhuast instead of the cheapo aluminum whatever most muffler shops keep in stock even though they say "oh we can weld alum to your stainless exhuast" (going with stainless to stainless is a much stronger bond and won't rust as fast)

I have the resonator off in my C32 and can't notice in performance difference. If any, it's very small (2+ hp). I can get you all a sound file later today. I'll hold my digicam outside the car to get the sound -- it's definetly a better, stronger sound.

I second roOzy.
I was one of the first to pull the resonator in my SLK32 which is MUCH more difficult as it requires a 2 to 1 collector that needs to be custom made out of stainless($300 for P&L). Anyway, it was all about sound, no speakable perforamcne gain or loss.
I am having it pulled on the C32 this morning and it is a peice of cake as it is just a single in and out of the resonator. Any performance gain would be all the way up top. There is of course the weight savings, about 25-30lbs for an SLK32 res!

Forgot to mention...Sounds great!
I don't have a sound clip but pulling the res made for a deeper and more aggressive exhaust note with NO negative effects at all. It sounds the way it should from the factory. Just imagine what's there and turn up the volume a few notches with the biggest difference when the enigine is at WOT.
