New (to me) MARS Red C55!!!!

Just want to post a quick note. I had a 1999 C43 AMG for a while a couple of years back but ended up selling it. I have been without an AMG for a couple of years now but I am happy to announce I just picked up a MARS RED 2005 C55 AMG up here in Canada.
It was between an E55 W211 and this and I chose this for the simple fact of reliability and bang for buck. The car has Kleeman Headers, Tune, and has a nice suspension for that perfect (in my eyes) stance. Had a Pre Purchase inspection and overall a great car but will need the valve cover gaskets done, which I will be doing myself here in the next week or so. Here are some pics.

Looks nice! I love the C55. You thinking of doing any other mods to it?

Thanks!
Eventually. Right now just going to tackle the valve cover gaskets and plugs this weekend. As far as the current mods I got lucky as that’s what I would have done or wanted to do anyway.
perhaps a flat bottom steering wheel, carbon fibre front lip and rear diffuser.
Any suggestions? I like the wheels and suspension already.
i wasn’t ever a red guy but in person this colour is quite sharp. I believe it’s more of a rarer colour too?

When you do the valve cover gaskets get them from MB and for the breather cover use Permatex Right Stuff Gasket Maker. I used that on mine and I dont have any more leaks. That’s nice you already have those mods. If you really wanted to you could get a Limited Slip Differential because stock they come with the open diff. Yeah the red is a rarer colour which is pretty nice.

I will go grab that permatex. I also heard it's great. There is a how to video on youtube (one of the only ones) and they use RTV gasket sealer. He did an update and said it still is solid. Also while I have the covers off that is when I want to change the plugs correct?
As for the gaskets I got MAHLE.
Yeah I turned the traction control off and it didn't seem to do much. Was hoping both tires would go crazy ha ha

Just don’t use that victor reinz **** because I did for my breather and it didnt seal that well (could have of been because of other reasons though) It’s a pretty straight forward job, just keep everything clean and dont drop anything in. I put clean rags to prevent anything from going in. I did change my plugs when I did that job. Im sure its still possible to do them with the covers on. The MAHLE gaskets are fine. I have a open diff still on mine but going to probably change that soon. I’ve done a lot of work on my c55, I pulled like almost the whole front end apart and cleaned up a lot of things - even did the intake. If you have any questions i’ll try my best to help out with the knowledge I already have. By the way if you already didn’t know; from windshield forward the c55 is similar to the w209 chassis. It’s very amazing that they did that.

Also I have the stock exhaust. It sounds good on cold starts but not too loud. I would like a bit more of a throaty sound but nothing that is going to **** my wife off or be annoying on a highway etc. What is a good cheap mod to do? Take the resonators off?

Nice C55!

For exhaust a lot of different options but just for a little more rumble most do either secondary cat delete or resonator delete, or both. I have deleted my secondary cats and kept the resonator, it sounds close to stock but unique and a little louder on wot.

Awesome, thanks for the info.

If I delete the secondary cats am I going to have a bit more of an exhaust smell I assume?

Basically which one deleted will give me the least amount of exhaust smell?

The primary cats are really well built and are about 600 cell + from what I've heard. So even without the secondaries deleted I haven't got any fumes or smell, if all 4 were removed I'm sure it would be a different story. I mainly deleted my secondaries as precaution just in case the primaries ever did crumble, they would now be able to flow out the deposits without clogging in front of the secondaries and causing potential damage to the motor.

Deleting both the secondaries and the resonators gives more of an old school, American muscle car sound. Lower and deeper with no rasp or drone.

Congrats! I was in the same predicament as you. I bought my '06 C55 based on bang for the buck. I appreciated the traditional coil spring suspension and lack of excessive electronics. But then I started looking at, and driving, W211 E55's and knew I had to have one. Sold my Mars Red C55 and bought a Barolo red E55.

Well 8 hours later I finished Installing the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs.

its not that it is terribly difficult, just that you have to have your ducks in a row prior to doing it (proper tools, torque specs etc).

I went slow and took my time and just made sure I was organized. Laid out my coil packs as they came off. The firewall plugs and valve cover bolts were the hardest by far. I did my plugs while I had the valve covers off which made it easier.

car seems to running way better and no seeping off oil anymore.

i didn’t video it bc well I had enough on my plate just doing the job.

i swore a lot. .....

I had some bad experiences with that in my old C32. Convinced me to always leave TC on. Even on the new cars.
