Surveying Air Pump problems of C32
Just wanted to check out with everyone about their experience after the typical failure of the Seconday Air Injection Pump inthe C32. After researching older posts, I found out some people had the controller module replaced with the Air Injection Pump also. I just had the Air Injection pump replaced but not the module.
I know this is a typical problem with this car, so my question is:
Who has had this pump replaced but not the module and experienced no further problems.
or
Who has had this pump replaced, continued to have problems and had to eventually replace the damn module also.
Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A little over a month ago I had the air pump replaced in my car when it continued to run after the car was off. I had to disconnect it to get it to stop.
A month later it did the same thing. They replaced the pump again and said that a relay switch was stuck open so they replaced the switch.
It has only been about a week or so since then so we'll see if it dies on me again. If so, I'll tell them to check the module and replace that as well.

When the relay fails it will usually kill the pump, and it does it quickly. It is actually the relay's fault. The relay overdrives the pump, and it can't handle continuous use for very long.
Dealers like to be pig-headed and replace them both after the pump had been murdered.
I believe that the original relay design has been fixed and the newer model is more robust.
The relay is about $15 and the pump is $150, dealers are not too clever on this one, maybe they like to inconvenience the customer and make a few $.
If mine hadn't already been done I would pay the $ out of pocket and replace it myself. 2 minutes and $15.

I had this problem, I didnt know it was covered under warranty so I bought a new pump and relay.... When I have my car service I'm gonna put the old pump back to have them replace it.
