Oh man, Frank were you in reverse? J/K. It didn't look like your car was accelerating at all. Would you care to share more details about the short run, ie speed (60-120 etc). You need to get your car dynoed at HOP ASAP.

Stage 3 should be putting down big numbers..

I don't think Frank has his ECU flashed yet.. just like me ;(

not it would make a difference, in this race.

However, we are talking about a light mod car vs a heavy mod car.

Stage 3 B5 S4s are rated 400-500 flywheel hp.

They can even keep up with high hp supras on hwy.. nice death.

I Dynoed 353 awhp and 372 Torque on pump gas 91 on a Dynojet Dyno. On racegas.....awhp is between 420-440 and Torque is about 430-440 as well. So about 430-440 HP to the crank on pump gas and about 530 HP on racegas

that run was about 55ish to 110. We did another highway run about the same (maybe 55-115) and a 15-20 mph roll-on to 100 as well. I believe Franks mods are Chip, Pulleys, Exhaust, and drop in filters. I thin he's getting a Y-spliiter or something? We're gonna m33t up again soon hopefully with some other cars (E55, Viper, etc.).....hope to get better video/footage

They're quick, but not THAT quick. You need to define high hp supras, because for us supra guys, high is 700 up. 500 flywheel hp is attainable with boltons.

quick enough Typical Stage 3 B5 S4's (all-bolt-ons) trap about 115-118 (full weight of 3800+ lbs)......the fastest ones trap 120-129. They can hang with most cars

Oh I'm not doubting that they get great trap speeds, AWD is invaluable at the track, but I'm talking about real life, on the highway, not staged in front of a triple tree with race gas in the tank. I used to work for Avalon Motorsports back in my early college years and I've seen my fair share of K04 beasties, but on the highway they really can't contend with high hp supras.

That's fast. I guess you can't really compare stage 3 S4 mods to simple bolt on mods on FrankW's car. IMO, the chip, exhaust, and filter don't really add much HP at all. The larger crankshaft pulley is probably the only thing that increases the HP on the C32 by any significant margin. I hope my "stage 3" C32 coupe (3400lbs) will be able to keep up with a stage B5 S4 Avant when it's done.

perhaps not the high hp Supras.....but they hold their own pretty well imho. Also...software and tuning has come a long way since Avalon was in NJ. Stage 3 cars used to be barely faster than Stage 2 cars.....now its night and day. A K04 car can hold its own off highway-rolls. I've pulled E55's off a highway roll.....lets put it that way

yea.....we just wanted to see the comparisons since he had never ran a Stage 3 S4 and I had never ran a C32 AMG. When will your car be done? Keep me posted as we can do some comparison runs. Always nice to see different cars and Stages and see how they compare

i got pulley, ecu, filter, and exhaust. i'm guessing i barely hit the 400 crank mark since i still have the resonator and no y-splitter.

his awhp 353 usually has around similar lost to auto tranny around maybe 19-20% or more, so that puts him at 450hp or so. plus 4wd car is underrated on the dyno most of the time. gotta ask you for a ride next time Jackson

Frank.....can u get a more agressive ECU/chip? Cuz i know with the Audis...you can run a regular pump file software (which i ran the other night) and then a racegas file as well. Also...even with pump gas files, some are more aggressive than others.....just wondering if you had that option? Drivetrain loss on Audi Quattro AWD is about 24%. Usually...we just take the AWHP from Dyno and Multiply by anywhere between 1.18-1.28, depending on the Dyno.

Frank you got the ECU?

where did you end up getting it?

As far a better mapping for our ECU. The next files will require headers. This will make it Stage 2 around 435hp if you have the Y intake and delete the resonator.

I believe PowerChip can map to higher octane ratings as well, not many have done that.

435hp +/- That is where the C32 tops out... due to its inefficient intercooler. With a larger intercooler and larger crank pulley EvoSport was developing a 500hp C32, but the R&D was stopped since the Kompressor clutch was not reliable.

Kudos on the Audi... very nice machine.

Can we ask.. how much have you spent on your car? In other words, to make a B5 S4 stage 3, how much are talking about? Parts and labor with a good tuner.

Interesting.....thanks for the info! As far as building a Stage 3 car.....it fairly simple and not as much as one would think (or maybe so) For all the parts...hardware and software, i was around the 6k range. That was the RSK04 Turbos and inlet pipes ($2500), AWE/GIAC fueling package (i got mine for $2100) which includes larger fuel Injectors, MAF housing, Silicone hose, Spark Plugs, Misc hardware, and of course the software. I upgraded to the RS4 clutch (about $400) to handle the power better.....and added RS4 Intercoolers (about $1k with Hoses and Shrouds). You need bigger/upgraded Downpipes, but the good thing about the B5 S4 is that you can just modify your stock Downpipes (gut the Pre-cats out) and you get 90% of the flow and performance as opposed to full-aftermarket DPs which will run over $1k easily. Thats pretty much it. Labor on the install was prob somewhere around $1500 or so. It is pretty straight forward. You can actually do a "Homebrew" style fueling (source/piece together your own fueling) and that can actually be much much less (prob around $1k for hardware) and the car will actually be faster many times than a Tuners Kit. I believe one of your forum members (Catapult?) is in the process of finishing up a Stage 3 install on his S4. His car will be a monster when finished.....the APR Stage 3 kit is fast! Thats pretty much it with doing Stage 3 on an S4. Of course.....better suspension and Braking upgrades will prob follow to harness the power. Sometimes, i feel like it never ends

Its usually just Stage 3 or Stage 3+ (Cams, Port and Polished intake/exhaust Manis, etc.).....there is really no "Stage 4" designation on B5 S4's yet....."officially" anyways But to give you an idea.....a typical Stage 3 S4 is around 330-380 whp on pump gas (depending on if its East Coast 93 or Cali Craptane 91). So about 420-470 CHP...with about the same TQ. On racegas.....400-450 whp is not uncommon.....depending on the car and which kit it runs. Typical Stage 3 car will go lo 12's (12.2ish@113-117) give or take. Some go a little faster.....factory freaks perhaps

I think we can, but that requires taking the ecu out and apart. Ours can't be done like the Audi or BMW from the reader port under the dash. I wish we can tho.

good info on the drivetrain loss. my guesstimate was pretty on the spot then

the more i read about the B5 S4 the more I wish I had gotten the S4 in 2001. It was one of the car I considered back then, but wasn't into modding then.
