My C55 build Day 1

So... This is kind of going to be my new toy. I grew up with restoring old cars, building muscle cars and making them go fast.. After years of racing motocross and other crazy adventures, I've decided that I needed a project car ag as in. This is a culmination of a desire to build a budget racecar and daily driver in the same car. I admit now that the AMG bug bit me a lot harder than I thought it would and this is going to be my first but not my last. This car is being built by me and built for me. There is going to be a subtle tasteful re-body too. Nothing dramatic and nothing to ruin the beauty of this special vehicle.
My story is pretty much a tale of luck. This car sat at a dealer with no title for 4 years. A trade in deal that went bad 4 years ago. This poor car sat for 3 years until the dealer (kinda shady I think from a little research) let his friend put a plate from another car on it and he got caught (found an arm length of tickets in the glove box).... I picked up this amazing specimen for 4500 bucks. 138000 on the clock.
There were a few things that needed attention that were really super minor. It took a little hit (probably parking against a curb) in the front bumper that broke most of the mounting tabs on it and must have been someting similar in the back as well. Being that both bumper covers needed replacing I figured this is where I'd start. So here are some pics of day 1 of my forever toy build. I'm going to post all about the build here as well as my instagram. I think I'm going to let this car constantly evolve into something rediculous hiding under the hood..

This looks like an awesome project and 4500 for a decent mileage sleeper is a good deal. I can’t wait to see the progress and final results. What do you plan on doing aside from body mods? I do have one suggestion. You should change out the exhaust tips for some e55/s55/cl55/e63 exhaust tips because they are a bit bigger and would look better on the car. From the picture the tips look out of place and too small. Of course this is my opinion and I don’t want to influence your idea of a build for this car.

Here is the new C63 front that just came as well. The rear bumper cover was pretty easy to do. I had to fabricate a few mounts but overall super easy to mount. The front bumper is going to be a bit more work. I need to fill in the gaps where the chrome goes. Haven't pulled the front bumper off yet to see what kind of mess is underneath and what mounting hardware got broken and what kind of fabrication will be needed. More pics to come.

Did you buy Duraflex or genuine bumpers?
Many members on the forum who bought Duraflex weren't very happy with fitment nor quality of the product.
Do you have a good fitment of the parts?

The back bumper was an easy install. Minor install mods. The bumper came pretty much ready to install with the hardware that came with it and a few rivets of factory mounting added from the old one. The front one I havent begun yet. It needs some bodywork to fill some of the holes from the parking assist and headlight wiper options. I held it up to see what it would look like and size wise the fitment looks good so far.

On a closer inspection of your photos, it doesn't look like a genuine MB bumper.
Holes for parking aid sensors and fog lights looks like they have casting leftovers from the mold.

Hope you bought it cheap?

Both bumpers are by Duraflex not MB.
Im VERY happy wth the quality so far. I listed the part numbers and prices on another thread. It's a CLK 63 style made to fit on a C55 or a CLK model as well. It's going to need a little body work to fill the holes from options I dont have, but it's not a project that someone with a little mechanical ability shoyld be afraid of. Im kind of excited to get started on it and get the car ready for paint. I'm thinking maybe by next weekend it should be prepped and ready.

Both look great, $900 for both shipped isn’t too bad. Gives the car a different more aggressive look. Can’t wait to see it with paint.

Most important thing is that you are happy with your purchase.
