Smile cntlaw got his C55 Brilliant Silver !!

An hour ago , I was driving this C baby home

Now , what can I say......where do I begin... :p :p
Okay, first , I am a HAPPY MAN. :p :p :p

Thank you all who spent their time to tell me what is a C55 AMG.
( especiially in my post threads "E320 vs C55 Attitude Change" )

Here summarized my first impressions:-

First Look:-

I was at the dealer this morning
My worry about I am getting a cheap C looking than my E is not a worry anymore. It is Brilliant Silver, and it must be THE COLOR for MY C55 this time.

No matter how much I like black color cars, when I looked at the black C55 next to it under dim lighting, the silver baby shines his eyes on me.
Those who ever noticed, the C class with Xenon Headlamp is like the pupil of the eyes. Facelife C class without the Xenon option, will only have the new transparent glass headlight.

So my first conclusion is, "I don't need to regret not getting a CLK any more" Because I really cannot tell the difference if I only look at it from the front!
I am proud to see it or to be seen riding on it.

What I had expected and are true:-

- Relative to my E320, solid MB feel

- Interior is luxury enough to be appreciated but not as thoughtful as the E
e.g. most buttons are smaller than the E ( it will take a while for me to comment the interior as it is a charcoal balck color opposed to my E320's light grey )

- It is a much better sound CD audio than the E320 even the E320 is good enough.

What I had not expected and are true:-

- extremely gentle exhaust sound not not even half the noise of the M3
( I did not open the window to listen ) So I guess the sound proof must be done well on the C too.

- extremely comfortable ( I really mean comfortable ) on bad roads even the AMG suspension is much harder than the E320Advantgarde. May be it is because of the more holding seats.

- More 'gentle' power when accelerates , even I been told by many members here about the C55 is smoother than the C32, because I never drove a C32, so I cannot imagine the difference. But the books and mags are right, the AMG power is in your hand , and you can have them any time at any moments.

- Lot of new gardgets that would not find on the W211 e.g. 30secs headlight auto turned on when unlocked the doors; AUTO headlamp turn on in dark tunnels;

- Heavy brakes comparing with my E320. And several times I was not able to brake in time, guess I can adjust to this in time. I cannot tell whether the brakes are good because of this , and also I did not drive very fast in past hours.

- Exceptional handling in steering - what can I say - I just love the steering and there is always some excitement when I am holding it. That means it is immediately convinced "this is my MB".

What I had expected and are not true:-

- the Audio System 50 can play MP3 ? No , it cannot, the display says "CDROM detected" means that it knows it is not an audio CD but not to do anything.

- the car look normal - no, it is not a already good looking C class that I know, more like a new CLK feel , it is just so handsome ! ( May be I had been seeing my dark blue E for too long )

The biggest problems with the C55:-

- Driving over 120 kmh is almost not to be noticeble , our speed limit on most roads are 70/80kmh

- The problem is I cannot find any problems with it

I have to do some high speeds tests soon....
I need a drink tonite or I will not sleep well....

Nice... and Congrats

I have to agree with you... it is an exceptional car... more than the C32.

For some reason it feels like they looked at the C32 and fixed all the problems. This is not just an engine swap.

To bring the C55 at the same time of the facelift also helped.

How do you like the instrument cluster & backlighting on the C55 compared to the white faces on the Avantgarde W211 ?

CONGRATS CNTLAW!!!!!! aren't the seats Beautiful?!?!(amg badge and alcantra inserts) and the new gauges?? oh man what an improvement over the C32 (my buddy's g/f has C32).....longer clk front end...the cool navi flip down.....awesome steering wheel w/ the shift buttons that under "M" mode will not shift into you do!!(can you say redline!?!?) and yes...black is nice, but for that body style, the silver brings out its lines best!!! I can't wait to drop mine and throw some Brabus Monoblock VI's on it....and you gotta get a flat hood emblem, makes it much more sleeker!!!!

btw, at the gas station yesterday, windows up, situating myself, and in the corner of my eye, I see a car pull up next to me really close...so I look over and I see this guy mouthing to me "that's a f***ing nice car!!" w/ a "thumbs up!", I nodded and mouthed back, "thanks bro", so as he proceeded to drive by to park, I realized he was in a Vette' Z06.... that made my day as I was driving off

Hi

Actually ...my ex-E320 was a 210.

For someone here ever owned a 203 and 210/211, I believe they will agree with me - the C's overall interior design, its buttons and switches, will never be a bit any close to the E's fuzzy quality. That is, in terms of feel, look and touch. Obviously , it is the money that makes the difference.

However, the C55 interior and options are based on the new C's redesigned facelift and is same grade as the top C320, so I would say I am getting used to the C's lower quality interior gradually after a day's ride.

The least 'acceptable' side of the C's interior is everything seems smaller than the E's The worse one is the air cond. panel is at the bottom ( behind the stick ). You can never read the thermatronic digital display while you are driving i.e. changing the temperature settings without be able to look at the LCD as what you have changed. ( I switched off the air cond by accidents several times )
This is something the future C should improve.

You make the point, I like the backlighting violet color glows on the C55 's cluster in the dark - very sexy !

Hi, DbleNckel

Thanks for your kind words.

Really I could not feel what the C32 owners feel about the "improvements". I tend to feel less about the 'luxury' parts; as I said "it is still not a luxury E".

About the nappa seats, okay, well may be they are better than those on the C32, but the good leather can be more appreciated on bigger seats like on the E or S :p

Leave the engine power aside, what really makes me convinced that was a sure no regrets decision are :-

- I was damn stupid to think that my ex W210 can handle the roads I need to ride. What I am shocked is the feel of the steering on the C55 is EXCEPTIONAL , and this compares to my experience of test drive the CLK 200K and CLK320Elegant. The mags I read tell the truth, some magic formula the MB engineers put in to the C55 steering. I only realize I am a racer when my hands are holding the right size thick and solid s.wheels

- When I recall my last time on the E320, only until now I know I had been on an elephant for three years.

It was a on and off rainy day here , I am gonna do some serious pratice with the manual mode transmission tommorrow. If it is sunny , I will drive to the down town and check out people's eyes

Goosh, I can't sleep.

derAMG,

Yes, thanks all your time in the past weeks that given me some good insights for my big day.

At the end of the day's ride, I started to feel the braking force. So it is 'lower'

I expected louder sound from the exhaust, but it is just all so quiet or so gentle .... but definitely the kind of 'high class' sports cars sound I heard before from expensive delxue sports cars.

Kev

Thanks ! You will see me.

Believe or not, I went to pick up the C55 from zung fu, you know what I saw..............goosh the whole floor was parking with new SLKs .............I never seen one on the roads yet , so these must be the first shipment still parked there and wait for the new owners who ordered them
Okay , SLK is going to hit roads in HK.

I feel very lucky to get rid of the 210 and now on 203 AMG . Or I would just feel like I am a very normal person to be on the 210 if ever the new SLKs pass me by.

Now, I love to wait for those SLKs join the roads soon and I love to see the SLK owner's puzzled face when they race me

BTW, is the SLK350 faster than C55?

I wouldn't think the SLK350 (0-60 5.4secs) should be able to keep up w/ the C55(4.9secs) but pretty darn close.....perhaps when the SLK55 comes out(4.9secs)????...which has the same engine and output as the C55, only difference I've read is that the SLK55's Net Power peeks @ 362 hp @ 6,000 rpm Net Torque 376 lb-ft @ 3,500 rpm in oppose to the C55's Net Power 362hp @ 5,750rpm Net Torque 376 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm ....you'd think the SLK55 w/ the same engine/output would be able to out-run the C55, cuz it's percieved as smaller(lighter) but I think the result of the hardtop and additional structure reenforcement for a drop-top it makes them comparable in performance #'s....??

All may be true that the SLK350 has a quick start like C55
and I could guess the C55 will be the winner after passing 120kmh

I think it will be different w/ the C55....(V8, different exhaust system..) I can hear it somewhat now...but I speculate that it'll be a lil more audible when I push it and the tachometer screams to its redline ....(soon, break-in period almost done!!!)

Yes a bit 'disappointed' and not the sort of "Porsche sound" and then we will still feel better because it truly sounds sporty among the non AMG MBs. The new E55 's sound is louder.

It's the third day with this new monster baby, some of the previous concerns ( E320Av vs C55 ) were experienced in real life.

C55 is proven to be very uncomfortable on the worst conditions longest hill road ( Lung Cheung Road in HK ). I almost think that I should give up driving it to work at all.

On all other roads, the C55 seems as 'comfortable' as the E320. What that means, if you only drive short distance bad roads once in a while, it does mot matter if it is an M3 or C55.

Along Lung Cheung road, 15/25 km I need to drive are bad condition roads. The bumpy feeling is as bad as my Z3 with M3 suspension.

In conclusion, the suspension, the tires , the car match well to my satisfaction . The problem is the daily road I need to drive. And, I have no choice.

I do not intend to do anything but if someone can suggest the minimum safe tire pressure for the C55 ( stock tires Pirelli ) , I will consider to reduce a bit of tire pressure for a little more comfort. Or am I wrong?
