Tyres

A while back I posted in a thread that my car won't wheelspin in 1st gear. Now I know the reason. Yesterday I fitted new tyres to the car. I had SO3's on the car. I bought a set of Conti Sport Contact 2 tyres. I am not doing track days and the like, so grip is not that important to me. At the first stop street, I turned ESP off, and floored it. It couldn't believe it, the tyres were spinning the whole of 1st gear, and chirped as I went to 2nd. I wasn't brake-torqueing or anything, just putting my foot down. For you guys that are doing drag racing and track days, I really think you must give the SO2's a try. I don't think you will be dissapointed.

SO3s are a great tire, but I cant see that tire lasting me more then 15,000 miles its just too sticky and for the price I would rather stick with the Toyos I have now..

Those Conti2's are hard tires.

He was saying that the S03's give too much traction to spin. Too little traction like the Conti's and you can easily spin the tires (or Tyres for our friends across the pond).

i don't know about you guys but I have yet to find a tire that I couldn't spin at start and that includes shaved r-comps on a hot day.

I doubt the SO3's have that much traction that you can't spin them. You may want to look into that.

the s-02 tires are great, awesome grip even in wet, but only lasted me about 7,000 street miles, toyo t-1s was my alternative and damn happy with them for alot less $ also

Do you think I should take the car to the dealers for a power check? I don't think the car is underpowered. I've been to 2 high speed events, and on both days I were quicker than the M3's and the 1 C32 that particpated.

I agree with you on the milaege bit. I was forced to change the tyres, because of a puncture on one of the rear tyres. The car did 12000km and the rears had about 40% tread left. Apart from 2 high speed events I attended, I don't drive the car hard in corners. The Contis were also much cheaper R1800 ($300) vs the SO3's of R2500 ($416) each.

SO3's are excellent high perf tires. I had them on my E55 for about 9000 miles before they were trashed. The Conti SC2's are better on the street IMO because they cost less per mile and the grip is better than acceptable. I just put them on my mom's E. Very quiet compared to the Dunlaps that came off.

BTW, new tires are VERY slippery for the first few hundred miles or so due to all of the greasy mold release they are covered in. Those Contis will get better as they break in.
