C55 engine frightening strange sound

Did I read some owners mentioned that the C55 engine produces a very loud sound like an aeroplane or like strong wind blowing !! I hear that even louder when the car went indoor , please tell me God is that something wrong ?

I noticed something similar on hot summer days here in California. When I investigated, I discovered the the C55 has an immensely powerful radiator fan that makes quite a noticeable noise at full blast. Nothing is wrong with the car.

Here in HK is ~28-32 c now
the past two days are rainy
the sound is really loud ( I mean REALLY LOUD ) like strong wind blow
honestly , I don't mind if that's 'normal' and it draws attention
can you tell me more does that sound because it is a AMG engine? Would it happen the same on a E500 ?

tks

Unfortunately I have exactly zero experience with other Mercedes-Benz cars. I agree that the radiator fan is very loud, so loud you can hear it inside the cabin. Give it a test sometime... drive around, warm up the car, drive aggressively for a bit, stop the car, and put the air conditioner on full blast. The radiator fan should come on then, and you can walk around the car and check to see if it's indeed that noise you're hearing.

True... the fan is loud. I hear sometimes if I park the car for some time, and the engine temp. is not low. Once I start the engine, it turns on the fan in a few seconds after I put it on D.

BUT the noise is not LOUD... maybe you need to take for inspection, I am sure your dealer has some way to trigger the fan on to reproduce the noise.

GOOD LUCK

Yes. it sounds like 'fan' if this is what it is. I am not exeggerating. When the car was parked still , seems the sound was gone for a while. And , yes, the sound came very loud in various occasions as I recall it happened twice when I entered indoor car parks. And one time was when I stopped at traffic lights. And, I recall it probably had happened more frequent than that , but these three times really made me frightened. However, I did not feel any other 'abnormal' sounds such as any parts contacts lossy. I did not get a chance to re-test this , but I will.

Fan noise can be due to multiple factors... design of the grill, radiator, area behind the fan, the fan itself, the fan speed, etc. Maybe the AMG guys thought it sounded aggressive and "cool"?

Karl

I did the test by turn the air cond to its full blast. Yes, the 'fan' is even more louder. Soon as I switch off the air cond, the sound of the 'fan' is gone.

It was loud but the sound is not quite 'noise'
Guess I will let the engineer to check.

it's the fan.....the engine emits a lot of heat!!! so I'm assuming AMG had to implement a heavy duty fan to cool it....I don't mind it...it's not an "unbearable" sound.....sounds like any ordinary car out there....
