So, who was it that was claiming the C55 couldn't hit 4.9 0-60?

It not only hit it, it smashed through it. From this month's Car & Driver:
0-60: 4.7 sec
1/4: 13.3@108

For a certain doubter's reading pleasure:

There are also magazine articles that show the C32 doing 4.5 sec 0-60, and 12.9 1/4 mile. Does not mean that it can be done by anyone else. They are probably going down hill and with perfect conditions. If we throw out the lowest time by a magazine and then average the other magazines we will probably have a better representation of what the car will do.

I'm sorry, but that's just ludicrous....

Get real. You think that one of the most respected automotive magazines in the US tested "going down hill"? Come on...

All of the magazines also use weather correction formulae to account for differences in temperaure, wind, humidity, elevation, etc. So the numbers printed in the magazines aren't the raw numbers they actually recorded at the test track. I don't know the accuracy of these formulae, but the purpose is to make comparisons across different tests valid.
It's probably easier for a person to match the 0-60 time on the C55 than it would be for the CTS V or M3 or manual equipped S4, as it's more or less floor it and hold on. Anyone can do that.
If it's possible to do so on the C55, C&D probably brake-torqued the car(I know some cars won't accept a throttle input if the brake is held down, don't know if that applies to Mercedes'). Even if there's brake-torquing involved, it's not very difficult for the average person to manage on an empty road, so those numbers probably wouldn't be too difficult to match (or at the very least, the raw numbers they attained, which aren't published)

Not only that. They also go both directions and average the numbers.

Don't forget the fact that the test C55 had the absolutely worst launch tires ever to "grace" an AMG vehicle. . . the Pirelli "Greassos."

My C32 cut nearly 1/2 second off the 1/4 mile by switching to Toyos. The Rossos were a joke (on the rear. . . they are fine on the front). The Neros are just as bad (ask Dink).

Never had any Problems with the Pirellis.. I beleive that they are the best tires on dry surface, at least thats what most european car magazines say.

I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn they cant grip for ****! Glad to hear other people hate them 2. A car with this amount of power and toqure also needs wider then a damn 245 tire in the rear!
