How to clean this mess !?!

Any advice appreciated... I don't like to experiment.

My guess is a plastic bag of sort came under your car?? With the pipes hot (be careful) take a scotch-brite pad to it. Never had to deal with it but that's what I would try.

No, i wouldn't recommend scotch-brite.... rather try to go get a tar/bug removing pad from a car place like autozone. it looks like a brillo but its plastic. or try some chemical to remove plastic; don't want to scratch off the surface, there might be some protective galvanizing or something that could rub off and result in rust down the road.

same thing happened to me - a plastic bag melted under the car and it would smell like burning wax inside and outside. The Dealership scraped it off no me no charge.

Thanks guys...

Its been a bad week for my C55... a grocery bag glued itself to the exhaust... and I damaged the right side rear wheel twice!!!

I think the best solution for curb rash is to save the side mirror settings (i.e. No#3) for going reverse. The side mirror reverse park assist "feature" doesn't always work.

actually , what is that ventilating looking stuff down the car? I was once shocked to find that thing is so close to the ground - I almost thought something dropped out

I think its a passive cooling grill. Its low so the air can flow through it. My guess is that it help cool the differential. I remember with my previous SLK32, the metal shaft part of the gear lever was too hot to touch sometimes. You won't notice it on the C55 because its wrapped in leather now.

Back to the grill... yes... its is too low... actually the grocery bag was hanging on it, and then it glued to the exhaust.
