HELP MarcusBenz...

Heh MarcusBenz,

In one of your posts you said we could just pop out the c55 grille, remove the hood strip and install the W209 grille. My C55 just arrived and the dealer is swaping out the grill and called to say they can't close the hood because the release latch is in the way. For now the have reinstalled the C55 grille. Did you encounter this problem and if so how did you work around it???

Any help would be appreciated!!!

After examining some pics of the C55 and CLK55... it seems that the C55's front grill is made up of two pieces (see below highlighted in BLUE)... so maybe he forgot to remove that !!

Yeah, that was my first thought but the hood strip was removed as part of the install. I pick up the car at 3 tomorrow so I'll see whats up then. Its frustrating though!!!!

thanks for your effort

Very interesting. I really do appreciate your effort with the research!! A picture really is worth a thousand words. As soon as I get home tomorrow evening I'll let you know what I find. Hopefully its nothing a bit of Dremel work wont cure.

thanks again

Got the car....returned the W209 Grille to the dealer. We worked on it for about an hour (really their top body guy---I watched) and no matter how you slice it, you can't get your hand in to release the hood latch with the 209 grille installed.

Back to the drawing board\

suggestions welcome

Maybe you need to replace the latch on the hood itself.

we looked at that but there still isn't any room to actually get your fingers close enough to release it. its hard to explain until you atually put thw 209 grill on. I'm going to leave it for now and see what we can come up with....

The W209 grill will NOT fit...

Contact Autowerks Express for the CL-Style grill they sell for the C55 exclusively...

This is a C55 . . . Not a CLK....

Well.....you know,,,I had one on order from Autowerks back in August. Like a dummy, I canceled it when I saw MarcusBenz's post saying you could just do the swap with the W209, chop chop. Since Mark has a good rep I thought this would be the easy route. No border, no shipping and no duties to pay. Oops!!! It sure looked like it was an easy solution but it was not to be.

As well I saw that Autowerks removed the kit from their website so that just made me think that there was an easy fix.

I am going to order one today (if they are open Sundays) or tomrrow.

I'll post some pic's when complete

thx

I apologize for the misinformation, but I never tried to physically switch out the parts. I said that it looks as if the swap could be done and was thinking about doing it, but never did as the large star has grown on me. Agian, I am sorry if I lead you to believe that the swap could be done! :o

Mark:

No problem. It seemed like a likely swap out and even my guys at MB Canada said we should be OK. Everything went in fine until we realized you couldn't access the hood latch with the W209 grille. No harm no foul. I still like the way you do things....

Aries:

Cool, thx for the link.
