C32 Gearbox problems.
Hi all,
new to posting to the group and unfortunately it’s a breakdown! I have a 2002 C32 AMG and when I bought it the gearbox was a bit lurchy in certain gears and the car went into limp mode and cut the power. I have replaced the pump for the charge cooler and changed the gearbox and engine oils / filters.
The car still goes into limp mode but has full power for a short time when I switch it off and on again. The gearbox still lurches but recently after leaving it for a week the gearbox jumped when I put it into gear and wouldn’t change up past 2nd. I switched it off and back on again and it was fine. Today it did the same thing but now won’t reset? I’ve lost the W/S from the screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey! Benz tech here. If that was the only fault present and not something like implausible gear ratio, its most likely the shift lever. Common fault. My conductor plate failed on me and I decided to manual swap it.

do you know if the part number has to match up to swap it? My selector part number matches others for sale but the module doesn’t..

When mine (now my daughter's) behaved about the same, I replaced the conductor plate, plugged in my star gizmo, drove it around as it told me to so it re-learned, and it was good as new. 100K miles later, it's still going well. Good luck.

Thanks for that. I’ve got the conductor plate waiting to do in. I changed the selector module and that has made a big difference as it now stays normal for a lot longer. Do you have to plug in the Star after fitting the conductor plate? Thanks ☺️

zero stars
Scottyc32, You don't need the star gizmo, no. With it, you can have it guide you rapidly through learning. It says something like I'm working from memory: "with RPM between 1000 and 1400, and speed below 20, shift from 1st to 2nd" You do that for about 20 minutes for differtent conditions, and the transmission is all learned out. Or, you can just drive the cart, and it will learn by itself over some time period.
