Oil Changing question...

Hi, this might be a dumb question but, how do you change the oil on a C32? I noticed when the mobile service came to my home and change oil for my ML55, they just pumped the oil rite out of the engine, then put new ones in...would dat be recommended?

Indeed that would be recommended, but the real question is......dum,dum,dum..... Where is the dipstick?

Seriously, if anyone knows where the oil filler neck is on a C55, and for this poor lost soul, where it is on a C32... then much obliged.

The only thing I can find without taking the engine cover off is the transmission dipstick.

I know the oil level must be checked through the digital display and did see a small canister with flat spots for a wrench that looked like it would probably house the oil filter. But ... are you saying that there is no place for the "owner" to "easily" add oil if the indication is low and that it must be taken to a dealer? If true, then I have serious reservations about buying the C55. I'll need to check that one ASAP.

Let's put it this way Norm....I am not saying there isn't one.....I am saying I can't find it.

Nobody has stepped forth and claimed intimate knowledge of it's location. Maybe it is under the oil filter. I have no clue. I would posit that it must exist since the techs don't transport the oil into the tank, but then again, they may remove six parts in order to do it. I just would like to know, and the top secret nature of its location leads me to believe they like making money to offset their euro to dollar losses. Anyway, as I said before...anybody know where it is?

The original question of the post was how to change the oil on the C32 - Drop the sump plug and drain it.

As for the C55 and where the thread got to - make no mistake - there is no dipstick to check the oil - The cluster display is the only guide. As for the transmission dipstick, its normally removed by service when it needs to be refilled after a change, despite the recommendation of fill for life.

Cars and boats!
i have a special fitting/socket to take out the oil filter which is on top of your motor...

to change the oil its a simple routine, take out the filter, jack the car up, take off the splash sheilds, screw off the drain plug on the oil pan, let her drain out, put back, the plug, lower the car, put in the new oil filter, pour 7.5 qts of Mobil 1 0W-40 Synthetic.... and your done!!

Dipstick location

The one you think is the transmission diptsick IS for the engine oil. The transmission dipstick is under the intake Y pipe on the passenger side pretty close to the firewall. The transmission dipstick has a locking clip which has to be physically broken and replaced by a new piece from the dealer. If you still can't locate it, I will try to take a photo and post.

regards.

You seem pretty amped up there MDS. Relax. I said dipstick as a figurative term since most people refer to this holiest of holies by that name. For all of those playing the home game, I said in the next sentence that I was looking for the oil filler neck. I don't know what type of engine oil measurement system was on the C32, so I didn't get presumptuous that it was either type. And yet, amazingly, whenever I think I am getting really close to finding out...I get half of the story. Everyone seems to know that you can take off the ground shields and open up the drain plug and get the oil out and then magically everyone says then just pour the oil in. Where? Obviously you don't pour it in to the drain plug.

I thought that my asking about the C55 would be well received by others and I reminded everyone to also answer about the C32. I wasn't hijacking anyone else's thread. I just thought this C32, C55 thread could actually apply to both. I am sorry if anyone took offense.

That is about all for now, but again if someone knows where you pour the oil into the doohickey then could you please tell us. C32 and C55 locations would be greatly appreciated. Peace out.

I found some pics of a C55 engine bay that appeared to show an oil cap just behind the oil filter. I will be looking at the one I'm considering buying today and confirm. Not sure if C32 is the same.

Update: Oil filler cap is there as mentioned above. Text on it indicates to use only MB-approved oil.

Rgds,
Norm
