C55 Foglight Bulb Upgrade??

Has anyone upgraded their Foglight (Hella) bulbs on the C55?? I looked in the owners manual and PIAA website and the replacement says HB4-9006. Is that correct and does anyone have any experience with the upgrade?? after getting into to back of the light it doesn't appear to be the correct one so I left it for now....(I was trying to use the PIAA extreme white HB4- 9006)

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

you were able to get behind the fog light housing to take the OEM bulb out?? WOW!!! I busted my driver's side fog light and wanted to save a lil' $$ on dealer labor cost by doing it myself, but when I took off the plastic underneath the fender to get to the back of it and remove the bulb so that I can replace it myself, it was a lil more than "point and shoot".... to get to the fog light bolts you'd have to remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir...so instead of nickel and diming it and risking any "wrong doings" on my part, i just took it to the dealer and had them fix it for $200.....

I didn't actually get the bulb out. We stopped when we removed the rubber cap on the back uf the unit (drivers side) and realized that the bulbs went H4B's and my mechanic put everything back together.

In hindsight, I wish we had removed it so I would have a reference for replacements. Did you upgrade your bulbs and if so>>>>whayt did you use and what type of bulb is inn there stock???

I didn't even get that far, just removed the black plastic wheel well cover and when I saw the resoviour and that I couldn't get to the bolts to the fog light housing, I just put everything back together..(fyi: my car wasn't on a lift, just ground level w/ the wheels turned so that I could get to the bolts that held the plactic wheel well cover).... I didn't upgrade, I just handed my keys to the service mgr. and said I needed the fog light replaced, so they just did it OEM.....I let my friend drive my car at night while I was driving his, and IMO the fogs are pretty bright already....

Do you have cornering fog lights? H7 is listed in the manual as the bulb type if you do.

cldriver. Thanks for the follow up

Not sure if mine are cornering or not but the bulb is an H7. I swapped them yesterday with a PIAA H7 and they work great. My manual dosen't speak of a cornering fog, just Fog Light and it states an HB4 as replacement. The dealer and MB Head office all said the same thing(HB4)HHHMmm???

My ex-cars: 03 E55,04 C32, 05 C55 ,03 E320
I currently on vacation in HongKong and I bought both 9006 and H7s for my foglight just to be safe. I got PIAA 7500K Spark Blue bulbs, anyone tried them before??

Btw,
My brother drives a 01 C320 and the foglight does use 9006 size, so i guess the 2005 C55 uses a different one (H7)

Take back the 9006. It won't fit. The C55 uses the H7. I installed mine the other day w PIAA Extreme White @ 4000K. They are a perfect matck for the stock lowbeam so the 7500K should be interesting.

What prompted the foglight upgrade? Were the stock bulbs not bright enough?

Good morning Norm, I hope all is well>>>>

I went to the PIAA upgrade because I didn't like the look of the yellowish 55w stock bulb. The Extreme white PIAA (110w/4000k) is an almost exact match for our stock low beam. Suits my sence of proportion better. Harris says there is another PIAA bulb in Japan (Super White) that is a RIGHT ON MATCH. As well I am upgrading to the PIAA Cobalt 6600K low beam next week so the stock Fog would have been like a old flashlight in comparison. As for performance>>>>>I would say that the projection is maybe 15% better and 40% brighter.

Hope this helps

Bye for now>>>>i'm going for a high speed drive to town,

My foglight lense is cracked, not busted yet, but cracked, so I was thinking how much it would be to replace that.
