Which "black" should I choose?

Hi all. My first post. Reading this forum and other research have convinced me the C55 is the way to go. I think the car looks great in black. However in Canada at least, we have four choices of black: Black, Black Opal Metallic, Diamond Black Metallic and Obsidian Black Metallic. Without seeing these options "in the flesh", it's hard to know which way to go. Any opinions re the best looking black option would be appreciated!

If you want a metallic black then go with Obisdian if you want to look truly black. Diamond Black has a blue tint to it and Opal Black has a green tint to it. I like either just flat black or Obsidian. Just my $.02. Good luck.

Sorry to be Mr. Obvious, but your BEST bet would be to go down to your nearest dealer and see if they have each of the different colors to look at. This way you can decide what suits your eyes best, rather than relying on other folks' opinions on the matter. Afterall, it is going to be your car!

Black Opal's not actually black at all - it's a metallic midnight blue.

Good advice and I also agree that you ought to look at the dealership for the other colors.

Thanks for the input. Of course seeing my dealer is the way to go. I haven't visited there yet, but living in the "far white north, I'm lucky to see one C55 a year, so they don't stock any at the dealership. However I may be able to look at the same paint colors on other models. In the meantime, I've been looking at photos and was also interested in your opinions.

If your prime concern are the different color choices, you don't need to look at actual C55's. Just take a look at the different colors on a C230 for comparison since there are plenty of C230 available at the dealers.

100% true but I would take Obsidian Black is the 'high class black' because this metallic color is not offered to cheaper C200K Sports Ed.
So be aware you don't pay the price of a C55 and get the C200K color LOL.
In future, people who buy your car would expect you have the more expensive metallic paint on.
This comes down to the basic consumer behavior principle as whether you want to pick something based on what you like to have or based on what other people would think.
Besides, pure black paint is always more obvious when have small scatches.

I disagree. Flat black looks the sharpest and shines the most. Obsedian Black has too much metallic and looks dull. You will see a clear contrast difference when you park a Black and a Obsedian Black next to each other. So my choice is definitely flat black due to its high gloss for a more prestigious look or bad *** look (whichever you prefer), not to mention it saves you the metallic paint charge.

Right, I love pure black too if ignoring the fact of its easier color deterioting. It still comes to one would want to enjoy the metallic paint's two-tone effect especially under daylight. At night, all blacks look black anyway.

Obsidian Black would be my first choice, but I'm bias since that's the color I ordered my C55 in. Black Opal is not an available color option for the C55 in the US, but if it were it would be my second choice. Diamond black and flat black I do not care for. Granite grey and Pewter would be tied for my third choice however those colors are not a black.

None of the above. I vote for Designo Mocha Black. That is the BEST color of all.

Believe or not, Japanese love black cars and theirs are regular black.
Anyway, there is one car I love to have regular black on , is the 911 Turbo.
I love to have a black CLS , but not a regular black CLS.
I have variations of moods on various cars.
