I read in an article in Automobile Mag. that the new C55 will have 390 HP in order to compete with the M3's 400 HP and the new S4's 420 HP. Is this true, and does anyone have any info about the new model C55 coming out?

Thanks S55AMG

Now how's 390hp gonna be enough for 400 and 420hp? If MB know what the opposition's numbers are, why don't they make someting more powerfull? AMG's are normally heavier than Audi's and BMW's, so less power is certainly not the answer.
Is the C55 also gonna get the new 32 valve V8?

The new C AMG has two versions, the first one is called C60 , with 6 litre new V8 engine DOHC , 7G-Tronic transmission , the hp is 420. This will replace all 5.5 litre AMG engines.

Another new AMG engine is 63 , with 6.3 litre V12 engine, this engine lies between 60 and 65, it will have 520hp. But whether AMg will give you a C63 , I guess it will wait until the E63 comes out first.

dunno... but autoweek stated the 420hp is for the upcoming RS4, not the S4

The new c55,rs4 and m3 are going to be the rivals of all time. The hp figures are so close its going to be about gearing and weight.

We know that the m3 is getting the 7 spd smg 3 from the m5.The rs4 is prolly getting a super fast shifting version of there dsg gearbox.

The c55 needs a fast f1 type gearbox to be able to compete with the audi and bmw.

Rumors also saying that the csl m3 is getting a 440hp v8 also.

Well it remains to be seen how much better the C AMG will be. But like the others have said - they really need to work on the speedshift... its just not fast enough at this point. DSG and SMG are far faster and really add to the driving experience - which is more important to drivers in our consumer group than just outright hp.

I just sold my C32 (only 8 months old) when I decided I was going to go back and get my masters. I'm driving a Tahoe now and I am very glad I bought it. Trust me, you take an AMG to any college, no matter where you park it or keep it, something will happen to it.

If they drop a V8 in the M3 and smooth out the SMG, I will bail on my C55 in milliseconds.

Ditto on that!!! I'm liking the styling of some of the new "concept" photos I've seen of the upcoming M3/M4, and I've read some article on the 3rd gen SMG that's on the new M5 (I'm assuming they'll use it on the new M3/M4 also) and it states that it is so smooth and adaptive to your driving habits that it's almost as good as a auto, but then again this is coming from these so-called "expert" mag. editors so I guess once it's available(M3/M4) I'll have to test drive to see in 06/07'... and by that time, I'll probably be over my C55, every 2 years is when I start getting the itch

I'd like to see a V12 stuffed into a C-class engine bay. I'm assuming the w204 will be bigger, but not much bigger.

Maybe as a project car. Wouldn't be much of a business case for MB to ever build such a car.
