C36 or C43?
So I'm planning on getting either a C36 or C43 as a daily driver / fun car. No twisties, no track days etc (as I have the TT 3.2 for that) and I'm trying to make decisions based on the info I am searching and looking up here (and on some other MB forums)
My needs are..
- AMG 4 door (so that's covered)
- nice interior 4 taking people to dinner and just general running around
- 96/97/98-00 years
- under $20k
- preferably under 60k miles
- possible options for warranties (or extended ones)
- clean
- mods ok but not many (as I'm done with modding for a while)
- silver prefered but would look @ black or white
I like the idea of having a nice 97 C36 (just missed one) as it was the first AMG seden (hand built etc) but like the idea of more room (C43) and the possability of getting a 98/99 with 7yr/10yr 100k extended warranty etc
Thoughts?

c36 is running on a handbuilt i6, but idles kinda funky ... diesel like. aero-kit looks more different than the standard w202 imo. 95 & 96 lacks another gear.
c43 has a pretty good sounding v8, even tho not as fancy spancy in terms of handbuilt engine. despite the extra gear, some of the ppl here have had tranny problems that needed fix'n by the dealer...think it was a software change if the tranny still ok, otherwise more needed to be replaced.

I was just a little concerned with getting into a C36 with 78-90k miles on it (altough I know with correct service and care they'd be good for 130-150k miles).
I'll be doing lots more research before I make a decision but I am leaning towards the C36 (as I've always loved them anyhow) we'll see..

The clearcoat on the wheels is starting to peel, I'm sure it doesn't help that the car EATS tires... I've had 2 new sets put on the rears put on in 20k miles.
Find a good independent Mercedes specialist in your area.... A few days ago, I needed some steering components replaced, front ball joints, the engine harness was replaced last fall--they tend to rot out on 10-yr old mercs. and apparently one for the C36 is hard to find (big $$), also my EGR tube was clogged up.. But now after all this, at 91k miles... I think its very solid... but with all this TLC, Investment, whatever you want to call it... I probably could have gone C43 from the start... and who knows what might have happened then...
Either way, Good luck!

-Ben..

As for being hand built, the 95's were the first year AMG went official with mercedes on the c36 and company. Alot was unique. Still to this day all amg engines are hand zassembled and shipped from germany.
