Pics of my 1996 C36 AMG
Pure AMG Power.
This 1996 C36 AMG (along w/ the '96 E50 AMG) marks the first time that AMG ever assembled and manufactured an entire vehicle 'in house', at their plant in Affalterbach Germany.
The 268 bhp inline 6-cylinder was the first engine AMG ever made in conjuction with Mercedes (starting w/ the '93 C36).
Hand crafted and tuned by a single German engineer, this example of near automotive perfection is 1 of only 338 units sold in the USA.
No matter what the Blue Book says it's dollar value is, the C36 will always be a pricless milestone in performance automotive history, well worthy of any collector's show room.
Sauerkraut has never tasted so sweet!
When people see this beast in thier rear view, they tend to get out of the way. Almost looks like it'll eat you if you get too close!
This little badge is all others on the road have to know the power that lays beneath it's seemingly 'gentle' exterior.
With production in the hundreds, this is one of the rarest contemporary performance cars in existance.
Here are some production numbers on different vehicles to put the C36 into perspective:
1- 1991 Mclaren F1 --- 7 units
2- 1999 Mercedes Benz S600 --- 14 units
3- 1999 Mercedes Benz CL600 --- 15 units
4- 1999 Mercedes Benz CL500 --- 19 units
5- 1998 Mercedes Benz S600 --- 167 units
6- 1996 Mercedes Benz S600 --- 221 units
7- 1997 Mercedes Benz C36 AMG - 236 units
8- 1996 Mercedes Benz C36 AMG - 338 units
9- 1997 Mercedes Benz S600 --- 348 units
10-1994 Mercedes Benz E500 --- 374 units
11-2005 Ferrari F60 Enzo --- 399 units
12-1995 Mercedes Benz C36 AMG - 444 units
13-1999 Mercedes Benz SL600 --- 459 units
14-1999 Mercedes Benz C43 AMG - 546 units
The C36 is powered by an inline 6 cylinder 3.6 Liter engine, outputting more than 268 bhp.
With only 86,000 miles on it, it doesn't feels a day old.
It takes extra care to make the car look nice in a marine enviornment. Tiny rust spots are always trying to penetrate the perfect paint job.
The definitive sign of German automotive engineering. Could anything be more beautiful?
Thanks for looking at my car, let me know what I should start doing to make it custom.

I agree, you shouldn't do a thing to it. My C43 is like yours (colorwise) in white and bone stock, gorgeous as is!

Thanks for the feedback, I think the car is great as is, but maybe considering putting different wheels on it to give more a distinguished look (not that there are many other C36's around to compete w/ me!) but I think it would bring out the W202 body even more.
As for the torque, MBUSA says that the 96-97 C36 has 284 ft-lbs at 4,000 rpm. Respectable, but not outrageous.

C43AMG!! nice car my brotha! i sugjest u do the first thing im going to do. paint the backing of ur grille body color, so white in ur case silver in mine.. disassemble ur grille, either tape over the chrome or slide them out and paint it white crylon plastic paint.. i did it on my e320 with some chrome crylon paint... ill do the same on my grill until i get the s-class grille later man. cant wait to swap ideas..

That's a good idea to paint the grill. I don't know why it's black (under the chrome) and mine is now grey from wear. I want to find the exact matching color for my car (alpine white). I haven't searched for car paints yet, but if you have any suggestions for finding a match, let me know.
I haven't tried to slide out my 'chrome' inserts on the grill, I didn't even know they could be removed. I'll check it out (seems more precise than taping).
thanks for the tips

What do you mean when you said McLaren only made 7 units of the F1? And was there even a '91 F1?
I think it was ~100 F1s with ~64 roadcars and were produced from '92 to '97 or something.
