Kleemann LSD

Over on the E55 forum, there was a discussion about aftermarket LSD's, and was wondering if the Kleemann diff would work for our cars too? (or if they make something similar for the 202). Anyone done this mod?

Yes, Kleemann makes it for your car, cost is 2300.

Currently, Evosport is working something out with Quaife (best manufacturer of LSDs) to manufacture an LSD for the C55/C32. It should fit the C43 as well. Call Vadim at evosport for more info. They should be ready for delivery within the next couple of months.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Quaife's is preferred, given that it does not exist yet for our cars. However, they specialize in making differentials and they have been doing it successfully for many years. They also have a patented ATB technology (http://www.quaifeamerica.com/) which apparenlty works very well. I am sure the Kleemann unit is great, I have only heard/read positive things about it. However, Kleemann offers an LSD along with many other products. Whereas Quiafe is specifically focused on differentials and transmissions.

Additionally, the Quaife unit should be quite a bit cheaper than the Kleemann LSD. Current estimates are around 1200-1400. Should be available around January. See the following thread for more info: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c55-amg-w203/110488-quaife-lsd-c55.html

I have the Kleemann LSD in my C43, 1999. It works great and you don't feel it kick in or any of that. It just gives you much more traction. Wet weather driving is a ton nicer with the LSD.

so what ratio is the Kleeman unit? I guess it wouldn't hurt to get a little extra "off-the line" performance if I'm gonna be spending the $$ anyways.

not exactly, although I guess it sort of performs some of the same functions. Plenty of cars w/ traction control do not have LSD

An LSD is not traction control per se, but it does aid in traction. An LSD is a mechanical device in the differential that distributes power to the wheel that has the most grip. Mercedes Benz traction control is an electrical device that applies the brakes to a wheel that is slipping or losing traction. In my opinion, an LSD would give you better performance and handling.

As I mentioned earlier, the traction control applies the brakes to stop wheel spin. This is fine during normal driving situations, but it is not the fastest way around the track or down the strip. If you are a performance oriented driver, you probably want the LSD because it will improve your times down the strip by .1 or .2 seconds, and it should also provide you with better control and traction around corners.
