I just did 317 miles on one full tank. I was wondering if the other C43 owners have the same type of mileage. Almost half of it was highway miles.

Thank you

Yes - roughly the same here with a stock motor. I do put my foot into it a bit...

That CDI is ***-kickin' I know it! It ain't cheap though. The money I saved, over the cost of your CDI however WILL outdo any savings in fuel, especially when those things are going for close to $50K and I'll smoke ya all for the cost of $15K. I have to agree with you, the C43 ain't got any legs for a highway cruiser. My ol' 1983 Porsche 911SC got 25/26MPG w/AC on, and would break 500 miles on a tank load of petrol (23 gallons).

I'm getting 280-290 per tank, at that point I'm getting the low fuel light - I don't get venturesome with that light on. I need to add a question. How far are you guys driving with that light illuminated?

I get about 300 per tank, with the light coming on at about 270 or 280. I've gone as many as 30 or 40 miles with the light on, but why risk getting stuck?

I get about 300 per tank in my C32 and my wife's 400E also. In fact, I think every car I've ever had gets about that, the gas tanks are probably designed to whatever size accomodates that range.

Question Question regarding fuel filter hose clamps

Quick question for you guys that have tackled the fuel filter job. Before I undertake the project this weekend - I know the job is extremely easy BTW.

My question concerns the hose clamps leading into and out of the fuel filter. Are the clamps the crimp (ONE USE ONLY TYPE) or are they the worm gear type that are actually reusable? If they are the former vs the latter I need to shop for some new hose clamps before I take up the job.

Wow! thats bad man... I am driving around 2000 rpm in city, try to save gas money. Highway is different story, usually 80mph (2900rpm), I did 110-115mph occasionaly, but last time I got gas i reseted the trip meter, and I did 315 and pulled over the gas station, I could probably do 320 I guess maybe even more.

I rarely can go more than 300 without having to take a leak anyway usually, guess I am downing too much Coke Zero while on the road. My tank is getting about 320 per tank, averaging around 75 if I am on a long trip. 24-26 mpg.

Get about the same with my trips to poker night and Wing night during the week.

Will let you know as I just got laid off and lost my company car, so will be my daily driver for awhile.

On my c36 I get 320 max with a 50/50 split of hwy/city. Not bad considering that my c230k would do about 350 when driving under the same conditions.

Btec - Just curious, when was the last time you had your O2 sensor checked out? It seems to me that if you are only getting 225 something is wrong. I get between 275-325 depending if I am driving hard or conservative. This puts you around 15 mpg....

Some things you can check are:

Oxygen Sensor
Air Filter
Tire Pressure
Fuel Filter

Regards,

Scott

If i'm in a good mood and i'm smashing around, that gas gauge is going from full to empty in about two days. I've owned a 328i and an s4, but when i get on it in this car devours gas like a ***** does ***

Does the gas tank size vary between the different 202 models? I get about ~350 on a 230Komp -- kinda wish I had a C43 instead now if there's not much of a sacrifice in mpg. =)

All W202's have the same fuel tank, 62 litres I believe. Obviously you'll go a lot further on a tankful in a C220 diesel than a C43.

My consumption varies, if I do local journeys only (my daily drive to work is only 3 miles each way) it will do less than 200 miles to a tank. Fast motorway driving, it's not hard to get 300 miles.

I don't think it's too bad for a V8. There was a thread on a UK Merc forum about this, a guy running a C240 V6 (a notoriously thirsty engine) was getting the same sort of fuel consumption as me... for a motor that puts out a little over half the horsepower!

Cheers,

Plug

You are absolutely right, w/ 16 of them how can one forget, however, normally a foul plugs will be obvious as the car will be sluggish.
