Why are these people still driving........

So this is great!! I just had LCA bushings and tie rod/center link replaced on my car this monday. That was about $400.00. I then had a 4 wheel alignment yesterday afternoon $100.00. All is well. Leaving work yesterday around 8:30pm I pull in to the car wash and leave with a sparkling automobile.

I'm making a left on a green arrow at about 15mph and a 92 year old man makes a right on red and drives straight into my right rear quarter/bumper and wheel. I was stairing right at his face as he hit me. Oblivious the man then asks me "I hit you, and was there any damage??" My jaw dropped and I did the right thing by just walking away. Not that I would ever call out a 92 year old man, but the thought of confrontation for all I know could give this guy a heart attack. I got right on the phone and stayed away from him. I then heard him say from a distance "I didn't see you and you where going really fast and cut in front of me." I had a green arrow. The dispatch on the phone heard this and found humor in it. Personally I find it sick. How come my states DMV is so blind and inefficiant that a program hasn't been created to test the ability of senior citizens. Granted I'm 24, but I respect my elders. What I don't respect is someone that isn't cabable of driving getting behind the wheel and damaging property that a young guy works his *** off for. Not to mention how many of my buddies drive bikes and could have been killed.

What really sucks is that I just forked out some $ and bought a Gen 1 HPS supercharger for this damn car. Now the thing goes back into the shop on monday for bodywork and I have to pay a $500 deductable until my insurance company gets reimburssed through his. So that ties up another $500 for a few months. I also think my MAF is going out as the car sputters once in a while and it's pulling codes about the MAF. AAAHHHH!!! AHHHH!!!!!
AAAAH!!!!

I challange anyone to top this rant!!!

BTW: Staple, and others, thanks for the info on the ash tray removal.

that sucks man.....believe me, change will come sooner or later. There are a lot of people that feel this way, and it is just common sense anyways. But I think it should be applied to all drivers, perhaps every 5 years. There are so many people of all ages out there who are unbelievably incompetent....it is as if they just barely skated through the driving exam when they were 16, and then went downhill from there. I swear the drivers in my town are the worst in the world, and at least a good 50% of them can't even get across town w/o endangering others w/ their incompetence, timidity, and slow mental processing of situations. But I guess that is just human nature for most people.......

sorry to hear about your car. Post pics when you get the s/c in! I'll be interested to see the results, as I have considered this myself

That's terrible, but I have to assure you that incompetent driving isn't reserved for the elderly
I live in the SF Bay Area and we have a "diverse" range of drivers on the roads. Where I live the BMWs and MBZs outnumber the Honda's by about 2 to 1, but sadly they're mostly driven by people who can't back out of their own driveways without causing an accident. I've come to rely on the power and braking of the C43 to help me navigate around these people on a daily basis. I rarely drive the Expedition around town out of fear that I'll kill someone in it since I get cut off at least three times a day in it -- any idea how hard you have to try to NOT see a 6000 pound white SUV with a glaring chrome push bar on the front bumper?!?!
Anyway, now you've got ME ranting I feel for you and your ride. Hopefully it comes out looking better than before.

Man, i am sorry to hear bout your car, you might recall the damn same thing happened to me about two months ago. Some old guy turned right on redwhile I ha da green arrow, took out my front quarter panel.

As far as the insurance though, this shoudl be a clearly cut and dry that it is his fault so you really don't need to file a claim through your insurance. They offer you that as a service to get yoru car up and running quicker, but i wouldn't, I would just file through his insurance and be done with it. Took me a week to get mine back but in VA the party at fault has to pay for a rental.
