smell after hard driving

i've noticed a smell coming from underneath the car and read a post where someone said something about the transmission after hard driving...

when i park my car in the garage (after normal driving too) i cant smell something from underneath...its not a very good smell, but not bad enough for me to be extremely worried...i've had the transmission serviced recently too...

my questions is : is this normal? and is something wearing out/down? does this mean my tranny is going?

ive noticed a little bit of a smell after hard driving in most cars ive owned. 850 T5 had it, 190e has it, C43 has it.....I've never really cared enough to find out what it is, although sometimes it is just the smell of hot brake pads.

I wouldn't suggest that. I cracked a rotor on my Expedition coming down some steep mountain terrain and hitting a puddle of near ice-cold water. If you aren't carefel that HIIISSSS can become CRACK. If not crack, perhaps some warpage. Just not a good idea.

I have a two-month-old SL500 with 1800 miles and I wondered the same thing this week. I floored it going 13 blocks up a steep hill above the city where I live. OMG it was so much fun being sucked into the seat! What a thrill! When I pulled into the garage I could smell a burning smell. I wondered what I did to my car. I figured it was due to "breaking in" my car. At least I hope so.

Yup.

Though it would be cool to splash some ice cold water on a the rotors of a race car right after some runs.
