so... i really liked the new mbz keys

Someone said something about changing the last number to a "01" or "02" so that the original key that I have will still work as a backup and it will not be programmed over it. Has anyone dealt with this or basically if I just order the part numbers everyone is posting then this key will work out of the box along with the original one I got with the car? Someone let me know before I make the order.

Part numbers
Order the part numbers mentioned before, minus the '9999' you'll get a brand new fully-programmed key. It's nice with a little more heft.

Blade Insert P/N A2037665006
Have your D/L and Registration handy or scan and send it via email, you won't get it without - contrary to popular belief, you won't be getting a key without them unless the dealer already knows who you are...

Someone will be emailing you for the info I mentioned on my previous post, i.e. Driver's License and proof of ownership (Title and/or regstration)

I got an email from a guy at parts direct and it just mentioned the order in process and I replied with if I have to show proof or anything and if key will work with my car and now waiting on responce. How long did it take for you to get that email requesting that stuff? I did it last night so I presume they might be closed for the weekend.

Hey,
I ordered mine a week ago now, scanned and e-mailed my registration and license to oempartsdirect.com but yet to hear back. On their website next to my key and smart key it says "On Order" I am assuming they are getting them in for me

Don't just 'blindly' email your info - someone from an authorized MB parts department will contact you for the info. My transaction was done through the aforementioned 'oempartsdirect' but a dealership emailed me for further information, Hammersly MB, they will forward your info to MB in Texas for your key. It'll take about a week, give or take....

Alright well the key came today! The metal key was even pre cut to my lock. All the functions work on the key, and the key works from 10 - 20 ft away from the car. It's an excellent key, would definitely recommend any one to get it. Almost too good to use lol. And it comes with four different coloured key releases that you can choose from.

I believe if your present key is physically alike to the one in the first post, with the "PANIC" button and the lock/unlock buttons in the same location it should work..the keys are programmed according to VIN.
Here's the keys I have, for the physically largest key (middle) I purchased a key on ebay. I gutted the electronics, contrary to popular belief they ARE not programmable by the owner. I then swapped the old guts and placed them in the case. My old key case was all chewed up and it looked like sh*t.
I think if your car keys resemble any of these, you'll be okay.

Ordered the keys from this thread (minus the A on the part number listed) and it works just fine. Had to prove that I owned the car, but other than that it was cheap, came quick and I'm very happy.
Here is a pic or two:
