if you are talking about your engine harness, then yes, they have had those problems before.

Basically you will need a new engine harness.

Yeah you're wires are grounding to ANY metal part that's close to 'em. Don't be a cheapskate - buy new wires. They're $144 and free ship through these guys www.autohausaz.com

The C36 has a version of the M104 motor. The M104 engine wiring harness was made with environmentally friendly insulation that does not hold up. The insulation gets hard, cracks and falls off. All sorts of issues start. The harness is nearly $1,000 and includes all the cabling and connectors from the ECU to the engine. Part of the harness goes under the aluminum cover atop the valve cover, where the coils and spark plug wires reside. The actual plug wires from the coils to the spark plugs are usually OK, but should be inspected when renewing the harness.

You might try contacting a dealer - maybe they can get MBUSA to share some of the cost on a "goodwill" repair.

They covered one-half the cost of the new harness on my 1995 C280.

What'd you tell them for them to spot you on that? I know it wouldn't be Brumos.

When the Service Advisor told me the harness was bad I asked him to check with MBUSA for the "goodwill" because I had heard the harnesses were failing prematurely. I've done this three times in the 36 years I've owned Mercedes-Benz and received a satisfactory result each time. I have never dealt with Brumos on M-B, but I did at the Porsche shop and they seeme quite good. I treat my relationship with dealers the same as I do with businesses and business associates. I try to make every situation win-win. If they help me, I give them more business. It has always worked for me.

I work for a MB dealer and we goodwill a ton of ****. The amount of tires that customers get for free is mind boggling. It comes down to this, large and expensive parts, like engines and tranny's they will goodwill because its a **** load of money, and how many people when there car goes out of warranty have a couple grand lying around to fix.

The real reason is "CSI" Customer satsifaction index. Although i'm not sure how many customer pay people versus warranty get the survey, it determines our bonus. If we get bad reviews and dont meet the percentage, there goes out bonus. And for the service writers, a lot of there salary is based on that. So its better for them to help customers out as much as they can.

Anyone on this board get a transmission as a 'goodwill' gesture? Seems like MB is looking the other way on this one with regards to the C43 trans. I'm aware of them throwing in a part or two, so to speak, when you're dropping several hundred dollars or even thousands on a repair, heck they're charging you MSRP on parts plus labor - of course it makes good business sense. Brumos wanted $76 for a steering dampener which I found for $21 or $23 for an OEM part. Thanks for pointing it out nonetheless...I never even thought about it.
