98 vs 99 C43

I'm looking to buy a C43 now and was wondering if there were any significant differences between the 98 and 99 (I know the 2000, beyond being rare, had the tiptronic).

Any reliability differences between those years?

1999 C43
Usually 99 models are 365 days younger than 98 models

i believe the center dash layout is a bit different between the 98 and the 99. also, the shifter gate has a black plastic inlay on the 98 vs wood on the 99, me thinks.

Excellent. Appreciate the help!

Looking at a couple 99's right now with low mielage (48K, 68K and 58K) .

Seems the only option was C1 (for the rain sensing and Xenon), 2 of them have it. 58K one doesn't have the 2 tone which I want to match one of the 190e 16V's I have.

There's a White local one that has some spoiler on it, I gather that was aftermarket?

As soon as I find one with the right options, mileage and condition that meet the right price point I'll jump in in the club....

The reason for the request is that there are some members here (myself , coolcarlski and a few others) that have offered to look at cars and engines that members were thinking of purchasing that were "local" to us.

I went to look at a 99 today locally. Nice car, two concerns.

1. Seat bladder switches do nothing. Neither Drivers or passenger side seem to work at all?

2. Front rotors have a pretty hefty lip on the outer edge. Not so pronounced in the rear, but I would imagine its replacement time at next brake service.

Car was dealer serviced though, nice condition. C1 package and two-tone interior. Might just work if he can figure out the seat issue.....

Front rotors on a C43 are expensive. I can buy all 4 rotors on my CLK for less than one C43 front rotor. If both have a big lip that's a good negotiating point.

Not sure if the C43 rotors are that much different but I got rotoes and brake pads for the front for $325 all together. That was for a 97 C36. Not really expensive to me.

Yeah, the one they have on Autotrader now at $19XXX, been there 90 days and they were at $16,000 when I last talked to them.

Would have been a short drive from Middletown, DE, but alas I was moved last year.

That one was a corporate lease car for half its life between NY and NJ. Sounds like a bit of a hard begining

Seems C43's are far more expensive. Cross drilled and slotted for my 190 16V's are $220 a pair, C43 is $800. Stock from Fastlane is $275 each....though rears are cheap

Seats are usually the air fittings flying off the rubber y-joints, a five minute fix. If you hit the switches and you hear a hum, it's more likely than not the problem. Brakes are an easy DIY, although not cheap. Tell him to knock off the cost of rotors ($600) and you'll buy. I'll give you all the information on the rotors - I just did the job.

No hum, no nothing when I hit the switches. Does each seat have a pump motor or do they share one?

Yeah, brakes are easy. I did both 190e 2.3-16's, an E320, a 190D and a Pathfinder before we left Delaware last year. Rotors are $275 at Fastlane, seem to recall seing them for $254 somewhere. At that price I might as well buy the Disc Italia drilled and slotted for $800 a pair.
