A/C question

My Air in my car since I bought it has been really odd. No matter what setting I put it on, feet, feet/face, face. It just blows on the face and ONLY from the outside 2 vents. The inside vents above the radio do not blow air. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have not had this problem. However, I have heard mentioned...check those plastic lines around the firewall. Some of those lines are air/vacuum lines for controlling the A/C vents - they may have cracked over time. Let us know if that helps...

Staplegun, I am new to the Mercedes world, so please forgive my ignorance. Can you please be more specific as to where there vacuum lines might be.
Thank you again!

They are going to be black plastic lines running parallel to the insulation on the firewall itself. I'll try to get you some pics posted tomorrow during daylight hours.

Plastic Lines

Alright, don't hold my feet to the fire. Like I previously mentioned, I've read on some post way back when that these vacuum lines become brittle they can cause problems. I have not replaced them on my car, but I have on others, they're plastic sitting close to a very warm environment. If your AC/HVAC controls indicate the arrows for airflow up/down but the airflow does not change, you probably have this problem. Those doors that open and shut control those little doors divert the airflow behind the dash to different locations.

Top picture shows where a line junction is at - gray in color, passenger side. close to the round diagnostic plug.

The second picture is for you to get a better relation of its relative location inside the engine compartment, the red line denotes the back end of the airbox - you can the see the monowiper at the top (in the parked position).

staple I found my problem I started to tug on the Yellow arrow tubing and it was not connected in the harness. Where does that lead? into the harness?

You have an easy fix then - where that line has slipped out is over on the driver's side. Look for a short rubber tube hanging out - that's where that line fits into. Push the line in, back to its original location where it was - if you have a flashlight you should see the rubber tube in plain sight, aft of the intake manifold - it's a vacuum source.

staple thank you very much for your help and advise. One last thing, is this rubber connector inside of the wire loom above the air intake? or further past? Sorry for all the questions on this, I am really wet behind the ears with MB's. Your help is much appreciated.

No problem - did you find that vacuum line and also did that resolve your problem?

Awesome - glad it worked out for you and the price was right! Check your seat bladders - same deal, the plastic tubing slips out of the rubber y-joints. Another cake DIY...
