the car had no signs before it went. I was actually puilling into a parking space and it shuddered and made this terrible rotational grinding noise....

The place that I am getting it from is Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantlers.

I will be providing the labor myself, thus saving about $1200.

Bought my car with 73k miles and have chgd the fluid with Amsoil synth ATF and filter at least 5 to 6 times since I've owned it(every 5-6k miles like Speedybenz). I've done several 1/4 mile and high speed runs with her including dropping in a 5.5L motor with mods. 97k miles and she still runs like a charm.

That may be the rule for some people but I do it as often as I can in regards to saving a couple of 1000.00 dollars. Every 5 to 6k miles I chg my filter and oil because I can only chg 4 qts at a time. The tranny seems to love it. Cheaper to chg it often vs buying a used or rebuilt tranny. 97k miles,so far so good.

Tranny filters/oil should be change every 48 000km ~.
No need to do it at every 5k, don't go crazy lol.

2000 C43 Wagon
For what it's worth, my 99 C43 Estate/Wagon has 130K (full MB history) with no record of any fluid/filter change and is still performing to expectations during my daily drive. Not sure if it makes any difference - but most of the mileage is Motorway/Freeway.
