Unhappy When SRS light is on.......

Hello there,
If the SRS light is on, does that mean airbags will not deploy?
Since I bought my car, the light was always on, I learned to ignore it....
I thought maybe there is someone here has the same problem..

Thank you

I had the problem about 6 mo after I picked up my car (prob around 58k miles or so) and it ended up being a faulty connection underneath the front passenger seat. I'd have to check my service records to see what exactly it was, but that was the problem.

That is correct. If the SRS light is on your bags and seatbelt tensioners will not deploy.

depending on the code that set the light, the air bags and etr's will or will not work. there are many different reasons why your light could be on. go have it checked out and see what it is.

I aim to check it out by the members here in case someone had similar experience. As you would imagine; just to get this checked by a Mercedes Stealer will cost me many $$$$... I already know that worst case scenario is the child blah blah sensor, which costs about $750... I just want to know if THAT is the problem... So I got a code reader, and it says nothing..

SRS light problem

Dear sir, can you please give me more info. about this problem when you have time?

I've been driving this vehicle with those lights on for more than 2 years, you might open the door to a cheap solution as oppose to the sensor replacement which costs about $750+

Thank you.

I had my passenger sensor replaced and it cost me $500.00.
After paying this amount I did some research on this and it doesnt seem to be that difficult to replace, next time it will only cost me about 120 and I'll do it myself.
If your air bag light is lit on the dash and on the center console, most likely it is a problem with you passenger sensor in the seat or it's connection under the seat.

Can you tell me how to fiddle with connections under the seat? Staple told me to move wires or unplug it and plug it back in but, I am afraid to use excessive force to break something down there....

Thank you

move the seat all the way forward and look at the connection see if there is tension on that harness or if you see wire strands being pulled out of that connector.

Hello Robert,

I checked the cables and plugs at the bottom of the seat, and could not find the problem. I believe it is the sensor. Do you remember the part number, or where you purchased it? I believe once I buy it, i can handle the rest.

Thank you in advance for your help.

amazing you could ignore that light for 2 years. i would have had to repair it immediately, were it my car. the irritation level looking at it would have been unbearable.

Well.. My kids' health and quality of their meal and lifestyle is more important than an extremely annoying light on my face while driving a dream car.

I would like to get it fixed as practical and cheap as possible. I hope you would understand.

(sorry for misspelling)

well, i certainaly wouldn't expect you to starve your children or interrupt their lifestyle so you could repair a safety problem on your dream car.
i was only explaining how i would react to the same problem, were it my car. good luck with your children and your car.
some people would consider no air bags and non operating seatbelt tensioners a threat to any passenger in your car.
they might even consider it a threat to the health and well being of your children, if they were to ride in your car with the above mentioned safety problems.

it looks like you didn't understand, and got offended. I am only looking for a practical and cheaper solution to my problem. That's all, you can go on with this conversation with your pal Staple..

Have a great one.

what is it that i didn't understand?
you've been driving your car with 2 serious safety issues for 2 years and haven't spent the money to repair stated issues, apparently not being able to justify the cost.
then in that next breath you try to justify this error in judgement by stating you don't want to jeopardize your childerns health and well being. i'd say they've been at risk for 2 years and will continue to be so until you repair the stated problems.

Ok... Someone once told me that if the SRS light is on, seat belt tentioners and SRS will not work. All the tensioners are and have been working perfectly (I am sorry, I don't know why I never mentioned before). Would that take me to a different direction to find a solution?

I looked it up in the forum here, someone said it was only the $100 seat buckle...

Any ideas?

Thank you

Child seat recognition sensor does go bad a lot on many M.B model, there isn't any way around it. You just have to replace it, and clear the srs fault code thru MB diagnostic tool. Then you will be good to go!

Thank you sir.

Do you have any idea of how to retrieve the part number?

A casual look over the EPC list didn't reveal anything. I'd try MB and see what they can find, as I'm not an expert browser yet
