Question c36 headlight replacement

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie to this site. I picked up a 95 c36 about a month or two ago. Great car. One thing that really bothers me though is that the dang headlights are so "frosted". Do the 2000 C class headlights bolt onto my car? I would like something much clearer, brighter, and makes better use of the light. Must be bolt on though. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

that shouldn't happen...the c36 has very good headlights ...plus the street lights (first notch pulled up). there may be leak somewhere, if all else fails, just replace it with a new one and some new bulbs. wiht new lens, light bulbs....u should see everything when u have low beams + street lights ...almost as much as u do with hid units..

The lense doesn't have condensation or anythign like that....just the outside part of the lense looks frosted up. I read your other post about the c36 having eCodes and like I said it the other post, the ecodes on my Jetta kick *** but not on this car. I'm looking to get replacement lenses or just replacement headlight assemblies. Any thoughts?

something doesn't sound right...i know my lenses don't say ecode...but it doesn't have any of the fuzzyness associated with dot lenses...instead..it has a horizontal cutoff beam to the left..and a slight 15 degree upward slant to the right. perhaps that "frosting" is what's making ur light look so dim...may be quick fix with new lenses...

My lenses say DOT and they also have that 15 degree upward slant. But I do have frosting. I'll take pics and post ASAP. Thanks for all the suggestions. I"ll check out the ebay auction too. Also, do you know that the lense itself can be replaced? If so, what's the part# and estimated cost...if you know. Thanks again.

ic...i'll have to take a closer look at the lense sometime. anyway...i'd ask ur dealer first, about the frost and about the part number. i'd suspect that the labor would be fairly expensive from a mb dealer, but the part shouldn't be too far off base...i've only got 22k on the c36, i don't drive it that much...do most of the work and driving on my wagon ... if u have a part number from ur dealer...i'd check some of online websites just to double check the prices...

if it looks like the frosting is on the outside then try using a plastic polishing compound. it worked wonders for my old 318i.

assuming that th lenses on the C36 are plastic, which I think most DOT have to be

I have my original 97 C36 headlight for sale ..

I am selling em cheap. OEM made by bosch.

No crack, no leak no condesation.

The lense is made of glass, instead of plastic on earlier W202's..(which might explain the frosted appearance)
just like on BMW E36 3 series between US DOT approved headlight lense made of plastic v.s European Elipsoid with Glass lense...

email me if you're interested..

Below is the pic, just so you'll get the idea what is the w202 OEM glass cover looks like

Regards,

J Irwan,

Thanks for the offer but my lenses are glass too. Why are you selling your headlights anyways? What did you replace yours with? One more thing, how much are you looking to get for them and do you have any CURRENT CLOSE-UP photos that you can post or send me? Thanks.

I have replace them with Bosch Xenon headlight... (same as the OEM Xenon headlight on C43's)

Here is the Xenon headlight look like

Hence the parabolic shape reflector (for the low beam)

I can take the pic of the actuall OEM headlight probably somwe time this week.

My 1995 C36 had dull headlights by 2000. I think its just wear and tear. I replaced them for new ones from the dealer. Very pricey but I could see much better after the replacement.

sorry for the long delay on the pic...

But here they are

I took the pic twice...

the top one is without flash and the bottom one is with flash.
Just to show you that the C36 stock headlight with Glass-lense look pretty clear to me...
