What Brand Muffler Do You have On Your Amg?
In another 300 miles my C43 will have 100,00 miles, yikes!
The stock muffler has never been changed so I want to get a newer one. I would like one that is not louder than the stock one (I did remove the resonator).
- Which muffler do you have or suggest?
- Will the muffler give the car a little power and better mpg?

for a quiet axle-back exhaust, try Remus or Supersprint.
a muffler alone will not give you any HP...

So all the advertising that flowmaster and others make are false/lies??
What Im concern about is this. my car will soon have the 100,00 miles. wouldn that original muffler be filled with all the exaust junk from all thise miles?
Would you guys just leave that muffler on, and if yes for how many more miles? I would think after so many miles a muffler would be so dirty on the inside that it would be taking away some HP and MPG. This is not true?

i would not change your factory muffler at this point or really at any point unless you want to change the way it sounds (unless you do go forced induction- although even then it's somewhat debatable)
edit- the gains shown by flowmaster and others are against much more restrictive mufflers than the stock one on your car.

anyone up to doing that?

you actually have this backwards. Flowmaster mufflers are NOT 100% free flowing design, they are a sound cancelling baffle design. Magnaflows are 100% free flowing perforated core mufflers and nothing else on the aftermarket flows as good as they do for both the universal and their all-in-one catback mufflers.

regardless, now that you brought it up i don't believe one would see ANY difference whatsoever in performance between one of the baffle type flowmasters and a magnaflow. It takes real modifications not just a slightly fancier muffler to make gains. Of course at some point things do need to be opened up enough to take advantage of other gains.

No need to question the C43 muffler it's just like the CLK55 and E55 muffler except the E55 and CLK 55 have two muffler inlets to my one big 2.75"inlet! And I still have it on my car.

If so that means C36 was the only AMG with out true free flowing design. I'd love to see a picture of it if possible.

Only way I could find that out is if I see one on Ebay and tell someone to purchase it. And I can tell you this muffler sure aint slowin my car down. Ask my friend in his modded SRT8

They are almost done. I have put them as priority number one. I want to make sure they are perfect and able to sustain but NA and supercharged engines (requires more heavy duty welding & flanges and etc so it took some extra time. They are on the way very soon.)

magnaflow will flow better than flowmaster, flowmaster is more for sound. Old muscle car folk & Truck guys, use them b/c they don't know any better. The ONLY thing flowmaster DOES make better than Magnaflow is their Y-pipes, definitely an amazing high flow design. I always use flowmaster Ys with Magnaflow components on all my bmw track cars.

In my experience guys with muscle cars know a lot more about modding cars than bmw owners- but to each his own.

so nobody wants to know for sure if its a free flowing exhaust? wow why did you guys even buy AMGs then? Don't you want to maximize performance out of your cars?
Someone take a flashlight, shine it down the tips and take a pic. Takes 30 seconds. The C43 guys can't be THAT lazy.

I've been holding my tongue as I've read this thread for the last few days. I am 100% sure that the engineers at AMG know more about exhaust tuning than you do. You will see virtually no performance enhancement from changing the muffler because it is rarely the most restrictive feature in the exhaust or intake. Ever seen the inside of a catalytic converter? Secondly, bigger is not always better. Unless you have computational fluid dynamics software and you have modeled the flow of gases in the exhaust system, you cannot definitively say what the best arrangement is. Otherwise, everyone could run a 4" school bus exhaust and make 'mad powah'. An engine is an air pump and it has a certain curve that represents its volumetric efficiency. This efficiency relates directly to the power output. You change this curve anytime you mess with something and some times you help it and other times you hurt it. There are a whole host of other issues that come into play when determining what makes for the best exhaust. Everything is compromise and I promise that you will get more performance by ditching those fancy leather seats and putting composite buckets in than you will by cutting the AMG muffler off and putting a Magnaflow muffler on.
PS: You're making assumptions a little too quickly about AMG owners considering of the guys you are arguing with, one has a supercharged 4.3L and the other has a 5.4L swap. But no, we don't like performance.

more or less what i'm too lazy to type out (there's more to be said about some related things too, but no point in it)
