GAS MPG ON THE 36'S AND 43'S!
You could try Lucas fuel injector cleaner. I tried it in the E55 I had and worked awesome!
You guys think your C43's are bad...I was getting anywhere from 12-14mpg city with the W210 E55...they are a heavy beast. But I was able to get close to 26 highway.

You guys that get 300 on a tank must be doing a lot of freeway miles, or do you have anyspecial tricks to share?
Even at todays prices, the gas is the least expensive part of owning a high performance vehicle and the C43 is worth it- excellent performance and except for a few minor irritations (like gas gauge and occcasional starting gremlins) an outstanding car to drive.

Haha, starting gremlins how true it is, my other c43 gave me a hell of a time not starting a few times it really pissed me off....
oh by the way, i forgot to mention. i get 250 miles on the tank on average but i accelerate really aggressively, but i still think i can get higher maybe 260-270 with the exact same driving habits if i didnt idle the car for 10 mins every day before i drive it (for 10 mins only when the motor has fully cooled otherwise ill let it idle for a minute to let it get settled in)
allowing the motor to cool slowly via idle is really good for the gaskets and other wearable items. plus the oil pressure is so minor when the motor is cold that it allows components like the cams to rub a little before the oil pressure builds making them float on a cushion of oil, which obviously is very good for their longevity.
Just did a highway trip and averaged 26.5 mpg. That is with new tires though. Car has 101K miles.
Suprisingly good gas mileage considering my Taurus SHO got about that. Its not as good as my 5 speed Volvo (31mpg hwy, 16 city), but for a V8 it is really good.
If you go for a V6 car you won't get much better mileage unless it is one of the new 6 speed Toyotas. Even the 4 cylinders in bigger cars only get about 4-5 mpg better. Not worth it for the perfomrance and safety hit IMHO. I used to drive an integra that got 36 mpg highway, but that was when I wasn't afraid of getting crushed in a small car. Oh, to be 21 again.

Plus people still gawk at my car and its 11 years old. I keep looking for a reason to get another car, but just can't. Nothing I get has the value of being this fast and cost almost nothing to license and insure. Not to mention is this cool and such a sleeper. If I was to get anoter car the only thing I can think of is a 2003+ E55 or a R63 (we need a family hauler now).
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
A friend of mine has a Jetta TDI and loves the mileage he gets with it. Though he does drive 30 miles each way to work and it makes sense for him.
I have to say I bought this car this year as a dd without the concern for mpgs. I don't think you should buy one of these if that's such a concern. My previous dd was a 93 325is that got 30mpg hwy amd 26mpg combined on my commute. BMW driving dynamics are funner, and I almost went with M3. Don't get me wrong though, I like my car's power and just have to work on the handling side. I am just making a statement on my experience with the 2 makes, not bashing Mercedes.

as for BMW Vs Merc, well true the BMW M3 will prolly be sharper, but consider how the AMG makes you feel driving it.
to me its a winner, how often do you push ur car to its absolute limit vs a quick but relaxing dash up some curvy road or a motorway with music blasting.
here are a few pics of my daily drive roads, thou we sure do have wider ones but really not by much, not before we hit the city anyways.

Sorry to go a bit OT, but yes I do enjoy the C36. I've owned 3 BMW's,1 Merc, 1 Audi Quattro, and 5 VW's. BMW's just felt more connected with the driving experience. Just an observation. Especially the 2 E30's I had.
My car, a C240 1998 with 75K mileage, I do about 18mpg (70% free way/30% in-city) for commuting about 30 miles a day. Mostly because I drive like an old lady (at least my wife says it…) usually about 55mph with very light foot and tire pressure about 36psi. I must confess that driving for fun with lead foot get me about 15mpg…
At least, I can say I’m feeling good with this. Fuel over here is about 6$ for a US gallon and I’m trying to keep driving as long as possible...
total miles i got-360miles (all freeway, 60 mile round trip and been on traffic only once).
i'm pretty sure if i went 65 all the way it would be possible to hit 400. its just really hard not to step on it on a free road!
Between fillups and keeping the speed at 75-80 and driving mello i was averaging 25.5 MPG (No joke) in my c36.
Leadfootin on one tank and passing people at 120MPH mileage sunk to 22.1 MPG.
Car was running in mid 80's temp weather with a fresh set of plugs and a new upstream 02 sensor.
Ran like a dream the whole way.
