Question GAS MPG ON THE 36'S AND 43'S!

ALRIGHT GUYS, i've had a few concerns on my car, i commute to wrk 5 days a week and i commute about 50 miles round trip a day, i burn almost half of a quarter tank, a day, that's almost ten bucks a day with gas prices, i want to compare with others on here, i'm not sure if that's what i should be expecting from the car, wat do you guys tink? also post wat kind of MPG u get also. i had a 97 E420 before and that car did WAY better on gas, and that was a 4.2V8 that i drove pretty hard, plus i had Two Alpine type r's 12's in the trunk that didn't make it any lighter, in the 36 i try to keep under 2,000RPM when i drive too, idk share with me brothers wat u guys think?

I don't even check with the C43, I really never have. Its very bad though, I can burn through half a tank driving around heavy footed in 1 afternoon.

I just picked up an 08' focus as embarrising as they are. If I was gonna keep the C43 for a fun vehicle I had to balance cost by getting something effecient. I had two V8's going for the past year and its been alot of $$ needlessly spent. The focus gets and honest 32+mpg even driving around town. Its only 169.00 a month if your looking to save gas $.

wow fellas

thats a lot of gas, but hey you gotta sacrifice something to have a fast car, and that's gas, u know i have to change the oil in my car, it's overdue by 2,000 miles, i haven't gotten the money just yet but should this weekend i'm guessing that's what is causing bad gas mileage? it's making the engine work harder, i'm going to throw in a bottle of engine cleaner, run for 5 then drain her and add ffresh 5w-10 mobile one oil, can't wait! plus i gotta spray the MAF with MAF cleaner maybe that will help also. then i'm even thinking about a radiator flush since i'm doing soo much. my engine temp. is good. but i think i should clean her up anyway and add fresh coolant. any other thought would be great brethren.

so, about 16 gallon tank, barely gets 300 miles, on a good tank. so that's less than 20 mpg.. combination highway/city.

I use my c43 to commute in and out of work. I work 13 miles from my house. City driving with these cars suck! I am good for about 225-240 miles per tank. This is probably the worst car I ever owned on gas. I am selling the C43 because it is not practical to have as a daily driver. A weekend warrior is another story.

Z06EATER, stay with me here. A half of a quarter tank is, let's see, an eighth of a tank. An eighth of a roughly 16 gallon tank is roughly two gallons. 50 miles on two gallons is 25 mpg, not too shabby.

If you really want to measure your gas mileage, try the following. When you fill your tank, note your mileage. Next time you fill it, note your mileage. Subtract the two numbers, and divide by the number of gallons you put in at the second fill. The result is mpg.

My C43 usually gets just over 20 mpg, in "semi-rural" driving (no freeways, but few lights and stop signs).

Werd.....I have driven C230K's and a C240 w/ nearly identical gas mileage, in spite of the official numbers. An I'm not a lead foot or anything (which would tend to balance averages out)

i understand what you mean, i filled a half tank on monday, only driven to work and back and my light is about to come on, my odometer says i only drove 93.2 miles. after doing math i get 18MPG with having a feather foot. i guess i shouldn't complain, i love this car to death it's awesome fun to drive and a real head turner. and i shouldn't compare to the 4.2V8 the 3.6 is a lot more powerful and a more higher compression engine too. fun car.. i'll do my magic and let you guys know what i get!

God Bless

okay guys.

here are my numbers:

i averaged 24.3 mpg on my last tank. it included a 34 mile each way commute to downtown atlanta from northern atlanta suburbs, which is mostly highway but since atlanta traffic is **** you can pretty much count it as being semi-highway driving. it was 15.6 gallons, i came out roughly at 380 miles total.

the latter was a test! i intentionally attempted to get the best possible mileage and it was a very boring 379 miles!

my usual mileage per tank is approx 250 miles. same commute same traffic, just heavier foot, which includes more fun at red lights...

i conducted this experiment because i intend to break the 400miles per tank mark after i chip and underdrive the motor. for those of you who dont think practically enough to consider that underdrive WILL get you better gas mileage, you should also claim that switching the AC on doesnt affect gas mileage whatsoever. my reasoning is that if the ac puts drag on the motor and you get less gas mileage, the inverse should also hold true; should you release drag from the motor then you should experience a slight increase in gas mileage...

I once got 463 miles out of a single tank on my 97 c280. basically all highway driving with very little city interference. that was with chip fyi.

I'm getting about 23-24 mpg .

Full tank lasts between 320-350+ miles w/ some spirited driving, but for the most part I'm easy on my car.

I'm pleasantly surprised how good the mileage is.

Its really a great car. I drove a w210 e55 at the dealer the other day and I don't think I would trade mine in for it. Felt a bit heavy.

Don't get me wrong,it was still fun to drive, but I like the small chassis' nimble qualities.

I guess I've had a few big Audi's, so having something smaller is a nice change.

Sorry , I digress.

UK Gas Mileage

For what it's worth, my C43 with 130K regularly achieved 21 mpg (US) for commuting (13 miles each way) and 24 mpg (US) for long runs (100+ miles) so the figures you are getting seem reasonable. For comparison, my friend runs a CLK55 AMG and gets a bit (but not much) more.

Just to make you guys feel good, fuel over here is about over £1 sterling a litre - about 8 bucks a US gallon. Born to drive...taxed to death!

When I had my C43, I remember my highway mpg was roughly 25. I really can't complain with those numbers...Hang in there dogwagen that must really be a nightmare.

Twelve hundred mile round trip last week to Charleston SC mostly on I95 returned almost 23MPG.
More then half the trip was at 80-90mph speeds in the Carolinas.

awsome

i see some of you are getttin wat you want outta ur cars as for as MPG goes lol..well lastnight i reset the computer by unpluggin the battery for 3 hours, and i took out the MAF sensor and sprayed it with CRC MAF cleaner, let it sit for an hour then put it back in, then i took my air filter which looks fairly new and gave it a few good slaps and slams on the ground, pretty dusty, but i'm sure i cleaned out some dust but yea, then i put it all back togethor, started her up, and wow, it was idling a lot smoother, and i drove to work this morning the MPG was surprisingly very good needle didn't move as much as before, when i got to work i made sure to turn the car off and let it sit for a few mins then started again, the needle was the same! i had to do that cuz in my car the needle is pretty tricky, lol it's DECIEVING AT TIMES! so i know cleaning the MAF sensor helped a bit, oh and i saw that seafoam stuff at pepboys. i'm prob gonna use that for engine cleaning. when i do the oil change this weekend!

that 24.3 i got was with a brand new MAF sens which was installed last week, along with K&N air filters (u gotta buy two for the c43 airbox) and some pretty ginger driving with very few sprints. i hope that helps... u should buy a K&N filter for your 36 it should let 'er breathe alot nicer. good luck on your quest

The ports on a CLK430 are a little smaller than a C43's, but steady speeds are the key.

from a full tank, i drove 104 miles...right now the needle is stopped exactly at the 3/4th level. i think its really possible to go 380-400miles when driving with a light foot. what do you guys think?

Tire pressure at 38/39, a good alignment, set the cruise at 80 MPH and try not to touch the gas or the brakes.

Hey, I'd trade a few MPG for those C43 AMG spec cams and massaged ports.

ha, yeah. 380 miles is def possible ive been saying it the entire time. on a light foot its possible, otherwise no. that v8 really sucks down the gas when you open it up
