Snap On Code Reader and C36
First time out we thought it was due to the battery dying over the weekend and having to drive a few hundred miles to reset all the monitors and codes that were wiped out.
Since this is not a DD car, it took a few weeks to rack up 350 miles.
After the Fail notice my tech tried to scan for codes but his Snap On reader won't take my 96 C36 vin.,but it takes our 02 ML 320 with no problems.
Something about not having the letter choice corresponding to the vin #.
Odd that I would get no CEL and fail. Plus, just last week my car was in for AC service at Keeler MBZ and my service writer said the Star computer didn't pick up any codes.
So I decided to pull the instrument cluster to see if there are any burnt out bulbs...and low and behold the CEL bulb is fried. F%!k !
So I switch places w/ a blub I know works and after I plug it all back in, there's the CEL glowing at me.
Does anybody know of a cheap scanner I can buy that works w/ the C36 ?
My Autozone doesn't do it anymore. And a visit to the stealership to read codes is 105.00 clams.
FWIW, my emission fail code was P1137. Could it have failed because the burnt out bulb prevented the inspection sw from reading the car ??? or maybe its the typical EGR valve, O2 sensor issue.
What a PITA.
Thanks in advance.
either way it is the same sensor and per above dead, dead

if there is one near you they will meet the internet price if you take in a copy of the web ad.
60 bucks reads clears reads I/M readiness status.
O2 sensors are 100k mile maint items.Have yours ever been changed.if not replace them no need for further diagnostics, they need to be done anyway.

Many thanks for the links.
Why are there so many types of 02 sensors listed ? They all look the same but have different SKU's ?
Any disadvantage to the cheap generic splice ins ?
Makes sense that the 02 sensor is bad. I noticed the gas mileage would suffer as the car was driven over 20 mins, as well as a wee bit less aggressive in acceleration once running warm. Probably goes into a rich condition now.
I think they may have had a mid year part change and that is why so many part#
Best way is email or call autohausaz.com have your production date handy.
