The BMW swap isn't unheard of and being a EE has no bearing on doing a swap. I know plenty of EEs that couldn't change an air filter. That is a common misconception people have about Electrical Engineers. A lot of them wouldn't know squat about wiring up cars or regular hands on electronics.

EE's have a lot of theoretical education. ME's will tear it up when it comes time to figure out how to change a part on any car....

Werd.....when I was an ME in college, I always hated working w/ the EE's as most seemed to have a strange inability to think in real world terms, like really big picture stuff they just didn't get. Either way, I would argue that enough of those guys have tinkered with stuff in their off-time (or in senior year design projects) that they probably have a bit of a leg up on the rest of us w/ more advanced electrical networks. That said, all it takes is wiring diagrams, manuals, some other tech literature, and then maybe a bit of experience. I'd really love to see someone do this!

Very true, which is the plan for my car down the road, but this motor would be pretty cool as well

More w/ install, but you can occasionally find them 2nd hand in various classifieds sections on the different boards for less.

I remember seeing a .pdf of theirs that showed somewhere in the 450 equivalent bhp range. That was supposedly for any m113, regardless of displacement. I'm sure with more aggressive tuning you could see those numbers increased (beyond 400 whp), and my guess is that the 5.4L would be right at the top end of that since it will always be cranking more torque than it's little brothers...
