Jinxed myself (C36 Tranny Problem)
After gloating about the reliability of the 4 speed tranny, I seem to have jinxed my car.
This afternoon, getting out of the parking lot at work, the engine would spin freely but no go, did this a couple times. Parked the car, then put it in reverse pulled out, started going downhill, then the car found the gear and then was fine all the way home.
I am guessing a visit to the mechanic is in order. But anything I can do at home?
Any suggestions?

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Could be
BUT

Then the soul is just a car" Meat Loaf
Then maybe it won't hurt
Or try draining the fluid ,fill properly with atf3 not 722.6 fluid for your 4speed model. Then have the pressures adjusted. If it is shifting fine now you may save it to fight on another good while.

You got it. My car's symptoms sound a lot like the posts here.
Looks like before it gets any worse, it would be prudent to take the car in to a good shop.
There are a few transmission shops near my house and two MB mechanics. I wonder which would be the best way to go.

Tough call on which shop to use. If you read the last thread billaz had some issues with the shop he chose.
Perhaps the M-B shop has folks that are clever enough to at least check for a broken band. It isn't easy to see the end of the B2 band. The valve body needs to be dropped. Not a big deal - I had to do it on my 1995 C280 to remove the B-2 thrust piece (opposite side from the B-2 piston). Anyway, a decent tech should be able to do that much.

Hey,
You can get those old 4spds rebuilt for dirt cheap. In fact, take it to a local performance tranny shop that rebuilds mustangs & domestic trannies and they will even rebuild it and upgrade it with stronger internal components all for under $1000 including labor (somtimes you can even do it for as low as $800), and that includes 1 year warranty.
just a thought.

I drove the car to an MB mechanic this morning. He checked the fluid level and found a bit low, added a bit more fluid and said to drive it like this for a couple of days. No issues at all this morning before or after adding the fluid.
I will probably get a precautionary transmission service including a new filter etc next week and then get it inspected while the transmission pan is down.
