manual or automatic?

Only offered from the factory in automatic, all 3 years. What modifications you could do on your own with a 190e or 300e sportline 5-spd transmission is a whole other story though.

I have been working on a standalone transmission control for my car. I am pretty sure that it could be used in factory 722.6 equipped cars. It can incorporate paddle shifting and speed up the shifts and make them very firm.
I have done some very limited testing on the factory tcu to see if the car would operate without going into limp. So far I am pretty sure it will work. I need to go ahead and hook up the standalone computer and see how it works to be sure.

If you were responding to me, it does work. I have a full standalone 722.6 in a w124. I drive the car almost every day. The control unit is from Powertrain Control Solutions. I have been working with them to get the bugs worked out and we are 98% there. What I am looking into now is whether it can be used with a stock 722.6 equipped car. I just need the time to plug in to the car and give it a try.

i cant believe such an awesome car only comes in automatic, that is a shame. you would think the type of person that would appreciate the craftsmanship and performance of an AMG would love a manual.
