c43 transmission noises

I just had my trans serviced by my favorite indy here in San Diego at 87K and 100 miles later it started making noises. They determined it was coming from the output/rear of the trans and now say I need a new one. It's a 722.631 and from what I read here, its not all that uncommon. Has anyone had luck rebuilding these? I hate to swap it out for a rebuilt core...

What sort of a noise is it?
Hot or cold?
Any particular gear?

Take it to Mercedes Benz of San Diego and Ill look at it. Lol Ya unfortunately if the noise is from the trans its usually only a matter of time before some finally gives. Its kinda up to you as far as how much money you wanna spend. Go with a used or rebuilt one but mainly it just comes down to money.

It just started recently when I drove about 5 miles and it is louder in neutral or park than when in gear. It sounded like a serpentine belt tensioner at first, but on further investigation by my tech, it was found to be coming from the rear of the trans.

What is required to remove the trans from the car? I have a couple of shops in the LA area that wanted it shipped to them. Other than that, do you have any recommendations for where I can take it without getting totally raped?

diy is not recommend, you need a special tool for compressing the pistons, and you need access to WIS work shop information system to find the clearance of all the clutch packs B1 B2 B3 and K1 K2 K3, also the 99 have the old valve body subs like 4 times to a 140 270 06 06, i am a tech and even after the cost of clutches seals, valve body, and if there is metal in the trans a torque converter it is just easier to buy one from someone like european transmissions, it will have a new torque converter, new valve body, and all the updated one way roller clutches and other mods, not all shops do all this and best of all you get a warranty!

Rebuilt trans in 99 c43

I purchased a rebuilt one from Sun Valley in Burbank, CA. Installed by a local shop. Picked up the car yesterday. This morning CEL came on and it limped home in second gear and DTC P0743 showed up. My code reader said "Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit Electrical." The guy at Sun Valley said that everything was new in the trans and the solenoid never goes bad. He said they had a similar problem just last week and it turned out to be a poor electrical connection at the wiring harness. He said to use a pick or needle on the "sleeves" in the connector under the car on the passenger side to create better contact. I'm not sure how I would go about that, but did look under the car and on the passenger side I did see 4 color coded connections, but he said that wasn't it. He said it's like a 20 pin connector that plugs into the wiring harness, but I can't find it...

Smile C43 Trans Failure at 90K fixed!

For anyone experiencing the transmission problems associated with our cars, I have to give props to Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantelers near Burbank, CA. I was frustrated when my rebuilt part from them failed and I was faced with paying more in labor charges to get it out again to get it returned and then fixed. Mark at Sun Valley paid to transport my car to his shop (over 130 miles) to remedy the problem which sounded like something I was going to have to pay for myself. Much to my surprise, I paid nothing and the car drives great, so far! (130 miles).

I found this vendor on MBWorld and so far, what a find! Thanks for the "heads up!"
