transmission blue top solenoid modification for faster firmer shifts
hooleyboy in the c55 forum talks about this mod along with flashing his trans module and he as offered to sale them at a discount. i have been experimenting with different valve bodies and solenoid combinations in my c43. i have the normal valve body 140 270 0406, if you get a new one for our cars it will be a 140 270 0606 it subs like 5 times, anyways in the end after removing and exchanging valve bodies and such 3 times i just replaced the two solenoids in the end. stock valve body, stock trans control unit, the result traction light on during full throttle 1-2 shifts, no hesitation in shift at WOT way faster way firmer! drawback downshifts very fast too when slowing down feels like downshifting a manual trans i like it personally. other drawback slow 15 mph shifts are hard and firm too it has been getting better as the trans adapts.
when i bought my c43 i checked the transmission serial number and part number and found it was out of a 99 e430 pretty much the same internals i will be be putting these in my clk55 trans when my engine and trans arrive for my swap and let everyone know how that goes.

Sorry to pull out this old thread, but the question of solenoids and EGS seems the subject these days. Anybody have a follow up on this modification?

As i said before i done that 5 months ago, shift well be quick, but very very firm in all gear shifts, if you can ignore that firm shifts you can
goooo on, but remember veeeeeeeeery firm shifts......

I asked one of my friend, his swedish qualified mechanic, he said the blue solenoid upgrade is only works with late 99/00 C43 which got a
touch shift -/+ gearbox, but its not work with 98/early 99 normal gear shift, which i had Unfortunately, if anyone can confirmed that, well be

back after only 2 days,, when i said works, i meant without firm shifts, i have an early 98 gearbox, that’s why i forced firm shifts, but in your

So you are saying the blue tops will not create a "firm" shift in a 2000 C43 because it has the touch shift but it will create the "firm" shift in the 98/99 C43?? How "firm" are the shifts, the OP had a '99 C43 and he said he liked it...

Sure, the late 99 which means from sep. to dec., well NOT having any firm shift with this upgrade, but 99 from jan. to aug., well force that

I imagine that the later "Tiptronic" boxes have different electronic controls than the earlier boxes, which accept the blue cap solenoids. My 43 is an April 99' so it falls in the older category. I certainly don't want a box which changes gear violently. Ideally a firm change would be perfect.

mind as well do this for the sole purpose of finding out... it's only a $350 mod and i could probably sell it off 2nd hand if i didnt like it. i highly doubt that it will though. mind as well when i change the trans pan gasket and filter.

Up to you guys - these transmissions for lack of a better term are infamous for their reliability, or lack thereof...Even with my manual vehicles (Morris 'S' 911SC and others) I'd rather eat the relatively 'cheaper' brake pads than have the engine/transmission take the weight of car by shifting down...just a thought.

We can’t upgrade the early 1,2,3,4 with only putting blue solenoids,,, we need to do a "3" things:
1) replacing the blue solenoids or a valve body assembly with part # "211 270 00 06 " instead of our # "140 270 01/02/03/04/06 06"
2) shift assembly from # "129 260 45/46 98" to # "202 267 08 24"
3) replacing TCU EGS51 from # "021 545 84/86/87/88 32" to EGS52 # "025 545 21 32" or "027 545 10/12 32" or "030 545 20/23 32"
* i done a TCU tuning with my previous E55, honestly i didn’t notice any difference,, i contacted with 'Harmann Bader in MKB', he said you
well not get any benifit with the TCU only, you need to do a mechanical tuning as well,, anyone here can confirm that...........??

Yes exactly, but not only TCU swapped,, i done all that steps i mentioned above too,, im trying to say, don’t spend $$$ with a TCU tuning
only, its NOT worth it.......

And also i noticed a disadvantage thing about a Tiptronic shifter, can’t change the switch inside it like an early 1,2,3,4 ,, if it damage, it must
to be changed as a complete assembly..!?!, im i right........??

So swap the blue solenoids, the EGS 52, and the shifter assembly and it will work? No other programming or swap of the ECU is needed???
How much is the EGS 52?
All of the E55 guys are praising the TCU tune, perhaps the tune you got wasn't very good...

thats what I'm saying.... Valve body is like $200-$300, the shifter assembly is around $500, and I am unsure how much the EGS 52 costs but it seems like you could do this swap for less than $1,500 + 5/6 hours of labor and you would have the updated TCU, shifter, valve body AND have the ability to get a TCU tune.

I changed all "3" things i mentioned before, & put E430 EGS52 # "030 545 20 32",, i just put the blue solenoids in my valve body, not a
complete assembly,, when i do all that, gear won’t shift, then i reset the ECU to identify the TCU signal goes & back to the MAF,, after that
car working perfect, without any issues,, sometimes the ECU can’t recognize the new version of the TCU, that’s definately need to reset it,,
and also some models got the TCU p/n related to the chassis it self, in this case it not works,, i don’t know surely if it works with U.S
version, if the car got a security self system in the ECU, it may not except the TCU swap.......!!?
TCU upgrade control the shift, to make it quicker & remove the rev limiter, i think its not that necessary to do it,, sorry this is my thought,
i could be wrong.........
