All that good luck paid off! I ended up with 6 complete larger emblems, and 4 smaller emblems. It was very hard to regulate the temperature as it was in the teens today here. As a result I poured it a bit hotter at 1700+ F so there is some minute air pocketing, but most of it should sand out nicely. I did a quick sanding and buffing on a set just to briefly highlight the beautiful effect a fully finished one will have. I hope to have them completley sanded, buffed/polished by mid next week. Let me know what you think .

The pictured emblems are basically rough castings. The shiny one has 5 minutes of finish work into it. When they are fully finished I will have baked black enamel paint onto them then finish the top to a mirror sheen. I might clear coat it depending if I feel like polishing it every no and then to keep the shine up.

Thanks a lot! I'll add you to the list . I have not decided upon a price yet, however, I want to be reasonable to my felow AMG enthusiast community without completley undermining the time I have into them. I'll wait until I get the paint, finishing, and such settled then we will go from there.

EXACTLY! That was actually what spurred the original idea of molding the smaller emblem. I remember I had a silver W202 AMG as my wallpaper years ago when I dreamed of having an AMG and it had nice AMG emblems on the front fenders (where W124 sportline badges are). I will be putting some of these on mine .

Quick question guys, what background color would you prefer? I was originally thinking of a shiny black, however, a flat or satin might be more along the lines of the OEM look .

Hmm.. Maybe making 1 of each and getting opinions afterwards on that.. Its hard to tell when you can't see what it looks like IMO.

I agree, satin would be my first choice as well. Unfortunatley all I have right now is gloss, so that should be dry in a few hours. So many options here though from background color finish (could even paint match to body color), to the lettering finish. The brushed Aluminum looked really nice before I polished it on the jewlers wheel. I'll just have to take some pictures of every version, see what you guys like. Everything is going smoothly, the imperfections sanded out flawlessly as expected, they are looking quite sharp.

Thanks! But by no means is it cheap. Cheap only if you consider first that the original engine AMG emblem will cost you in excess of $440.00 as it cannot be bought seperatley without the actual plastic covering. Secondly these emblems are pure cast aluminum. OEM is plastic, that cracks, peels, and eventually falls off. The OEM side AMG emblems, even at 1/4" tall by 2" wide will cost you over $80.00 new, these are die stamped metal...not even close in quality to a casting. There is a reason even a famed tuner like AMG that "cuts no corners" cut the corner here, mainly because it is expensive compared to injection molding plastic or feeding blanks into a stamping press. (Although it has absolutley no effect regarding performance )

Paul, thats the route mine took as well. The plating/paint started to lift and when I helped that process along I discovered that the emblem actually lay in about 8 different pieces that were barely being held together. I'll have to come up with some kind of mounting idea. The OEM emblems are simply glued on, or at least thats what it looked like on mine and the glue failed....miserably .

Quick update, iPhone pics are not the best but it gives you a good idea. Used gloss black spraypaint as it was all I had avaliable at the time and I am impatient. Left it with a satin brushed aluminum look, I kinda like it. More variations to come!

so it seems but that car is also showing the main stream intake pipe of the 280 instead of the 3,6 AMG one. That will really harm power.

Jay, good observation! No "3.6" emblem on it, I noticed that as well. Whats the story behind that Paul? Is it just a variation or indeed from a C280 as Jay suggested? I image the OEM AMG intake piping would cost a FORTUNE from the dealer.

Yeah I bought one and it cost...wait for it..$666.00.
