C36 Fan Noise

Holy Guacamole.

My Dads V8 Chevy van sounds quieter than my AMG.

The mechanical fan is mother****ing LOUD since the proximities are so tight (compared to say my e36 BMW). And the electric fans are nuts. Its like a jet in there. ON TOP of the usual c36 diesel sound.

Has any one done the complete mechanical fan removal?

It is a very sommon procedure with BMW e36's and I have done with great success. Less inertia on the engine, less noise.

All we do is change the thermostat 88C -> 80C and tell the electric fan to engage earlier 88C -> 80C.

NEVER any problems, even on hot summer days in traffic.

C36 AMG
A Chevy V-8 van?? Totally different ballgame here lol.
And yeah, we put a C43 (V-8) right next to my C36, and literally, you CANNOT hear the V-8 at all!! It was all C36.
The 3.6AMG is a "different" engine all together, unlike anything I have ever heard or witnessed, you really can't compare it too other vehicles at all! (and I'm not talking about Speed) I'm talking about Engine characteristics, the Diesel sounds, Jet sounds, etc etc... and on top of that, you get totally different engine sounds at different throttle levels, It's like it turns into another engine!

Is your fan clutch OK? When they go out, occasionally they lock up and then the fan is VERY loud.

Nah, the viscous coupling is healthy.

Of course you were right. 1:1 with the pulley regardless of RPM.

Performing the fan delete mod.
