C43 oil leak from the front

The car does have small but steady oil leak comming from the front of the engine. I've already replaced the oil filter housing seals and valve cover gaskets but this does not fiexed it. The leak is from the driver side front and it is dropping on the A/C compressor. Any help will be appreciated. It is engine oil that is leaking. Thank you.

Could it be p/s fluid .. very common to have a p/s leak from that location.. There are acouple of things in that area lower oil pan, upper oil pan, oil presure port, and head gasket. but all these things should be easy to spot

Maybe clean the area and put dye in the oil.. it glows with a uv light

it is definitely engine oil. it is comming from the area below the oil filter housing. I can not see it very well because there is the belt and the tensioner pulley.

the oil cooler gaskets were replaced last week. the problem is that this did not fix the leak. I did replaced both of them ( the small circle one at the bottom and the oval one at the top).

If its coming from below the oil filter housing its got to be the oil presure port.. Its the test port for a oil presure gauge. Very common leak. Its alittle plate 2 screws and a srew with a copper seal.. when you replace it do the copper seal and the rubber gasket. Use so mb black sealer on it to.

Yeah probably the oil pressure test port, if you remove it and the rubber seal is hard as a rock... there ya go.

thanks a lot for the info. The oil test port is the only thing left. I will try it and hopefully this will fix it. What are the part numbers for the seals for this port?

Yes thats called the timing cover gasket as I stated above. Easy fix and there is a recent thread here on replacing all three.

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...Cover%20Gasket

Should be the gasket pictured on the bottom.

Can you tell us the partsnumbers for the other 2 gaskets that should be replaced!
I saw the squared gasket #ps linked from autohaus on previous tread!
Now I don't know the #ps numbers for the gaskets on upper oil cooler!
The oval gasket and the smaller round gasket!
Can you link the parts numbers from autohaus or another webshop with MB #ps numbers?
Thanks

I think they were from 'Victor Reinz'. I got them from bimmerspecialist.com, about C$20-25 each, which is a good C$20+ less than from the dealer. That's for the oval and the round one. I haven't bought the rectangular one yet, but that's only supposed to be in the C$3-5 range.

Both of those gaskets ran me about 30.00 US apiece from the dealer.

Okay, I bought the rectangular seals for the oil test port / timing cover, direct from the dealer. They were about C$7 each. How these can be only $7 but the oil cooler seals $47 is beyond me as they are about the same size!

Anyway, I bought both because I wanted to be certain I had the right one, once I open it up I will know I guess.

But then it occurred to me - can I use the updated seal even if I have the old one in the car right now? Or are there physical changes on the cover? I think my engine serial number indicates the earlier seal should be used, but the parts guy wasn't very clear on the issue of superseding parts numbers. Given the relatively small cost, I bought both.

I tried to compare the serial numbers through autohausaz.com for the Crank shaft position sensor!
sensor 1 has the engine serial number 00 24 20 and it had 2 clip on locks!
sensor 2 has the engine serial number 00 24 21 and it had 1 clip on lock!

The serial number on the engines does not match the serial numbers for these timing case gaskets above?
How come all 4 parts use different numbers for engine serial numbers?

For the crank sensors, up to 00 24 20, you use the one sensor, if the engine serial number is 00 24 21 and on, then you use the other sensor. Should be the same type of situation with the rectangular oil port seal. But if I can use an updated seal, I'd rather do that than not.

when you remove this part that holds the timing case gasket, you'll try if the updated part fits!

regarding the cps sensors if they show the engine serial number then it should be the same for those timing gaskets!
same engine S.N.!

I have changed my cps just in case so no worries there anymore!
I just bought my front suspension parts today from a US webshop and for a cheap dollar I feel rich buying from the US instead of sweden that have NO competition in prices for cars between shops!
sweden sux when it comes to buying parts for my car!
way to expensive, we have added 25% government tax on every part or any product from clothes to electronics!
buying stuff in sweden is crap!

Hi this is an older thread but I think I may have the same oil leak. I got the timing cover seals and cam sensors seals replaced as they were supposedly leaking oil. But a few days ago I noticed a couple spots on the garage floor again. Same area as before.

Under the car looks like this

If there are certain things other members have experience of being easy of enough, I can do it myself. I work on all my vehicles. Also at the same time I want to be specific when I bring it to the shop as where and what I suspect the problem is. I hate when a shop does trial and error , and find the error on the final try. I want to have my ducks in a row this time . Thanks in advance

Gaskets behind the Oil Filter housing and the additional oil cooler itself (in front of the oil filter) can leak.

Here's a good YouTube video on some of the common/easy to fix oil leaks.

I had an oil leak from the oil port test cover. Small rubber gasket which becomes very dry over time. A bit complicated to get in there, but removing the fan made things much easier

This forums is for the original C43 AMG, built from 1998-2000. Your signature and pictures imply you're on a w205 C43. None of this advice would apply.
