C43 Transmission swaps?
Ok here goes,
I have a 1998 C43 AMG with a bad sun gear, ring gear and planetary gear. I am looking for an INFORMED person who know what transmission you can use as a temporary fix while I save some money for Southern Hotrod to do this thing right! After some research I am no comfortable with the intel I have which is the following and Seattle MB has said well scratch scratch we dont know if the computers are the same and will interface yuck yuck. So here is what I got so far. Somebody end my misery please.
Transmission (722.631)

Thank you in advance.

There in fact have been a couple documented euro/middle east delivery w202 C55's that came with a manual 6 spd box. Literally a couple though. Renntech also offered a 6 spd manual coupled with their overbored 6.0 m113 in the CLK60. Other than that, there have been no other 6 spd variants offered for this engine or this car, manual or automatic. The 2000 MY C43 was offered with an updated tiptronic 5 spd auto, but no 6 spd auto in any of the markets.

thats very interesting FLYNAVY i have never heard of any manual trans in c43 or c55 i would love to know what tranmission it was it Getrag, borg warner etc. as far as i know mercedes and amg only produced auto trans models for the w202 amg cars. The 6spd auto is a myth also. only 5spd and 4spd autos in w202's

Anybody think of contacting the AMG factory in Affalterbach? If any and correct information is needed, it probably would be THE best place to start asking IMO

Although true to a great extent, this does disregard the small number of m117 AMG engined cars that did come to the states with manaul trans......there is even a gentleman on this board who has a 5.6L r107 SL with a manual box. But I wouldn't expect the majority of spokespeople at AMG NA to know this, let alone have any knowledge of the 2 or 3 AMG w202's that were sold abroad with sticks.

You and me both my friend! It would be a mod that I'd be very interested in, probably a greater priority for me than a 5.4L swap.....if it were feasible at least
BTW good to see another C43 with an Oregon owner. When I lived there and drove mine, I think I only saw about 2 others the entire time.

How long ago did you live in Oregon and where do you live now?

Anything is feasible....... I use to have this mechanic that had this saying that I think it holds true, "It's a matter of cubic dollars". If you think about it, its very true. I can get a honda civic to SMOKE a Ferrari, I'll have to drop about $20,000+ into the civic but "it's a matter of cubic dollars". So it comes down to how bad do you want it

Agreed about the $$$, and that's kind of what I meant about feasible. I'd consider it for 5-7k but I don't think I could justify spending much more than that on such a project.

Nice! I only saw silver ones while there, including my own. I moved away in early 2008, and only have been an infrequent visitor since (holiday leave, etc). I live outside San Diego now, but have been in FL, TX and MS for the last 2+ years.

I think I probably will in the future, though unfortunately car modding expenditures of that extent are currently limited for my own sanity to finishing up my 190e V8 project (already a collossal money pit as it sits today, well into 5 digits of expenditures, still not quite ready to drive yet)
