C43 Questions please help

Hello,

I need some help. I need to know or see pictures of the radiator cooling fans on a C43. I have swapped a CL500 engine into my Crossfire which is a very similar chassis. For example, I had to use C43 exhaust manifolds. I am currently running two 12 inch electric fans but they are not always up to the task in the Dallas heat. I would like to find out it the C43 readiator shroud and fans will fit my car. Idealy if anyone in the Dallas Area has a car I can take pictures and measurements would be a big help.

The electric pusher fans on a W208 CLK430/55 are in a shroud that's 23" wide by 12" tall. The shroud for the mechanical fan is 18" wide and 20" tall. The mechanical fan itself is 16" wide (or so).

When I had an Rx7, I built several styles of electric fans that were meant to replace the mechanical fan. I built them in styles that used the OEM shroud and with custom shrouds. They all worked to some degree, but none of them moved as much air as the OE mechanical fan. They were fine at speed. However, when at rest the coolant temps (verified with radiator thermosensors) were higher with the electric fans. Are you using the OE mechanical puller fan and replacing the electric pusher fans? Or are you trying to replace the mechanical fan?

The Crossfire uses the exact same same cooling system as a R170 SLK320 which only has a shrouded 16" electric fan. I have suspicion that the C43 radiator, shroud, and mechanical fan will work on my car. Does the C43 also have an electric pusher fan? If I use the mechanical fan, I will probably also have to use an electric pusher in front so that i don't get error messages since my car's computer is looking for an electric fan. I have ten thousand miles on my V8 Conversion and have seem it heat up at long stop lights in the hot Texas weather. I have been able to keep it out of the red by turning off the A/C but this is no fun when it is 107 degrees out. I am currently running two very thin 12 inch fans with no shroud. I need to pull more air when the car isn't moving.

I would love to find a C43 in the Dallas area to take measurements from and check inlets and outlet and hoses.

Does a C43 only have one mechanical clutched fan off the engine or are there any electric fans in front of the radiator?

That won't work. You HAVE to have a shroud. The air is following the path of least resistance. Without a shroud, you're not pulling as much air through the radiator. A lot of air is coming from "around" the radiator. You may want to try a shroud before trying the mechanical puller/electric pusher option. The shroud should cover 70% of the radiator.

What's the CFM rating of your current fans?

I have been running this set up for almost a year but only stated having issues when Dallas went over 100 degrees and stuck in traffic. I have done some checking and my stock radiator is the same radiator used in the C43, CLK430 and CLK55 (W208). I just bought the clutch, fan and shroud. I will also run my existing 12 inch fans on the front of the radialtor as pushers. I have found out the C43 has two electic fans on the condensor. My car originally had just one 16 inch electric fan, but I had to ditch it as it was too thick to work with the V8.

C43's have a mechanical fan and 2 electric fans on the front, with this setup is weather such as what you're having I would expect a C43 to be running 100-105C in traffic with A/C on, thats still ok. average in cooler weather when stuck for long periods in traffic is about 95C. Make up some shrouds as this will help direct the most air through the radiator rather than around it.

Thanks Guys,

I ordered a C43 shroud, clutch and fan today. I don't believe the C43 electric fans will fit behine my grille but I will move my existing fans to the front of the Radiator. I will let you all know how this works out.

This weekend I installed the C43 fan, clutch and shroud. There is room on a Crossfire for the C43 electric fans. I moved one of my 12 inch electric fans to the front in fron of the condesor. It was very hot in Texas this weekend and the heating problem is now gone. Thank you to those whol helped.
