Mine has had a tow assembly on the back since it was new! I don't have a pickup so I'm always on the lookout for a small, low trailer i can use.

55 motor plus the same driveline from the w163 so it should be fine towing a lot of weight!

my tech friend used his w163 ML320 to tow MB cars for 10 years and never had a failure. These are way tougher than they seem.

when did you swap tranny from W163?
did it come from an ML55?
was tranny matching numbers with the 55 engine?

the w163 tiptronic tranny, das it shift smooth and correct compared to your stock tranny?

what stall speed converter/TQ converter did you use when you had the new tranny installed to your car?

I wonder how the transmission from an ML will fit without major surgery, both mechanical and electronical, as it's built for a 4wd....

Its the same transmission, 722.6, but with an added transfer case for th 4matic. They are 2 different components. The difference between the 722.6 in the cars vs the w163 is how the casing is designed around the output shaft to accomodate the transfer case. Sorry it if sounded like I put one in my car, because i never meant to imply that.

Thats only because of our open govt. laws EVERYTHING is open and publicly available. at times its pretty weird but its pretty funny being able to call someone out who says they never speed by printing out their tickets for them to see.

Changing out the wiring harness, lower oil pan and tb. Cleaned up my steering pump, ac condensor, fan and lower oil pan. After inspecting the oil pan, it appears that the S55/CL55 oil pan on this new motor is identical to that of the C43. Here's a few pics.

I thought that I'd make the bay spotless before dropping the new motor in.

I was able to snap a pic of the underside of the mounted motor. The '02 S55/CL55 oil pan is in fact the same part #112 014 06 03 as the C43 oil pan. Attached are both pics with the first pic taken of the '02 S55/CL55 oil pan.

D.,

The "W215/W220" lower oil pan should be the same with "W202/W208/W210",

the upper one is different, due to a differ oil pump between them..!

W202 C55 AMG, W202 230K T-Modell, Corvette Stingray C3,
Check everything again exactly.
A friend of mine swap the 5.5 from a CL in its C43. At the installation, however, he had to realize that the oil pan of the CL55 engine is 5cm longer than the C43 engine, although they look the same.

Wish you a lot of fun with the installation

I went to my friend garage today, he got "3" Engines,,

(2) 02 W220 Engines:-

one Engine with code#: "033A416", same lower oil pan with "W202/W208/W210",

but the other Engine with code#: "036A518", lower oil pan won't fit with "W202/W208/W210",

(1) 02 W215 Engine, code#: "036B227", lower oil pan won't fit with "W202/W208/W210",

*that definitely depend to the Engine countries spec.,,

or at least, depend to the factory production line limit of those oil pans..!!

Hi Z. Yet again you go to great lengths to confirm information for myself and every other member here. Thank you again!

Most welcome D.,

yeah, upper oil pan should to be changed, due to a differ oil pump,

as i remember; "W215/W220" oil pump is way smaller (filter neck carving), than W202/W208/W210" one,,

*"W202/W208/W210" oil pump #: "113 180 04 01"

*"W215/W220" oil pump #: "113 180 07 01"

For those that are interested and curious as to the differences in 55 motors. The new 55 motor is a 2002 S55/CL55 motor. Big thank you as always to Zayed who is a world of information and always there to help!

As it stands, there is a big difference in the oil pump neck as the pics will show the difference in angle and length. After removing both pumps, the neck plate itself can be swapped out provided that both have 4 torx bolts. Zayed already knew this and stated that it may be possible to keep the upper oil pan and oil pump gear if the neck is a universal fit although he did say that the lower pan may hit the swapped out oil pump neck. He was correct and in fact it does hit. The upper pans are literally a quarter inch different.

Thanks Z! Once again you're a saviour!
